The Under £200ish Watch and occasional Opera Thread! Vol2

Apologies all for the rambling post, and massive thread drift!
I completely understand the need for what you do to be the absolute best it can be. We live in interesting times however, and sometimes have to compromise. Perfect later should not prevent very good now. If I had my way, I’d never actually ship anything because there’s always something I can improve.
Good luck.

https://www.hsamuel.co.uk/webstore/d/8063974/Citiz... This comes in a hardcase with an extra rubber strap and a tool.. if only I needed another diver.
I had that one early in my watch collecting journey and it was a nice weighty watch but eventually the rough noisy miyota movement was too much so i moved it on.Kept the case which was lovely and now store all my watch tools and bits and bobs in it!

I’m definitely doing it. They’re available at the Swatch store in Frankfurt.
Maximum 2 per customer, so the plan is to keep one, flip the other one for a cheeky profit and hopefully end up with mine for free.
What's special about them? Aren't they just a cleverly-marketed 200 quid quartz? What am I missing? Maximum 2 per customer, so the plan is to keep one, flip the other one for a cheeky profit and hopefully end up with mine for free.

They are a cleverly marketed 200 quid Omega branded quartz, that is a very nice looking Speedy lookalike. I’d absolutely love to buy a real Speedy but no matter how I save I just can’t justify spending that amount of money on a watch, and then have the worry of damaging it when I wear it. I’ll settle for the 200 quid Omega branded quartz safe in the knowledge that I’m wearing a little bit of Omega without the need to go down the homage / Pagani route.
This. Me likely. Chances of getting one rather slim I suspect. Doofus said:

As has been said several times, they aren't limited.Swatch have confirmed that they are not numbered, or limited, and they will be available to buy online sometime after the initial launch.
I’ll keep my eye on the website for when that happens, I'm certainly not gonna traipse up to London and queue up outside a store only to find out that the colour way that I wanted is already sold out.

Yea that case looks useful, I might need to go find one separate to hold straps and bits. Kept the case which was lovely and now store all my watch tools and bits and bobs in it!

There are two stores really close in London (carnaby street and Oxford Street) so I had the thought get two from one and hopefully walk round to the other and get two more!
And like you say sell two to pay for the others.
Just wondering if there will be a queue from like midnight though
It’s a bit annoying they the are in three shops in London, firstly why not go out to the regions there is a Swatch shop only 30 miles away, second I would have been in London this weekend but due to a job change I’m not And like you say sell two to pay for the others.

However for me I'm unexpectedly free all weekend so I can make the two hour trip down to London to try and get one (or two!)
TBH its going on my Christmas letter to Santa, things will have died down by then...but no doubt some plonkers will be feeding the scalpers...

There are a few of my work colleagues off to London tomorrow. Don't think they'd thank me if i asked them just to pop in and pick one up, even if I warned them there might be a little queue....

Christmas may be too late; Swatch runs are usually 3 months. TBH its going on my Christmas letter to Santa, things will have died down by then...but no doubt some plonkers will be feeding the scalpers...

Those of you who are going to let the hype cool off and then get one will likely be disappointed. Whilst not limited in numbers, these will be discontinued after 3 months, so unless you manage to get your hands on one fairly quickly following a re-stock, then you really will be at the mercy of eBay flippers.
Apparently each store is getting around 185 watches in the first batch, which will no doubt be gone on day one, then it will take another 7-14 days for a restock, and these will also likely sell out same day… and so on until the plug is pulled at 90 days.
You can see how this is going to go!

Just brilliant. Thanks for posting. It always reminds me how much influence Wagner had on the composers of cartoon music from that era.

The very best of luck indeed. Sometimes the stuff cobbled together at the last minute and winged a bit is the best stuff.
Thanks. We’re going to need it. People just don’t know their roles, through no fault of their own; there’s just no one else available.
One could make an argument that they shouldn’t have agreed to jump in, but we’re coming out of the pandemic and the majority of singers have had no, or very little, work for two years.
I fear Friday is going to be a clusterfk of epic proportions!
On another note, here is my new acquisition, it's my new work watch. It's 10 years old but never worn, a new battery and ticking nicely. Excuse the rubbish photo.

Nice watch, and a good question, so how did it go Barchettaman?
Morning all, that is a nice Hanowa, and thanks for asking. Better than it had any right to go, I think is the honest answer!
On a personal note I remembered both the role and the production, having flown in on the day of the show (something I NEVER do), and mind body and voice all held up ok.
The duck-faced Romanian soprano messed up a few bits but she was knackered having sung the lead role in Don Carlo the night before.
The Russian lad playing the baritone lead somehow managed to learn it in time and he sang well.
The only downer was that it was appallingly badly sold. People aren’t coming to the opera at the moment. Let’s hope we have a decent crowd in this afternoon for the Ukraine charity concert in Frankfurt.
Cheers all!
