Currently in repair (Grrr!) but I'll see if I can get a library pic....

This one, got in the U.S. in 2007.
That’s a nice watch. Very nice
Agreed, very understated, lovely watch that!!
If you're seriously considering the Seiko 5 I think the only thing you won't like is the bracelet, they're not the best.

+1, an absolute cracker. Let’s hope the repair isn’t too spenny.

Deep breath.....

So I regularly get it serviced every 3 - 4 years (Goes to TAG and comes back 2 months later...) via a Jeweller local to me. The last service and I quote

"Full Service and replacement crown as well as new gaskets" 12/12/20

So the Jewellers called me yesterday and said "looks like it has to go back to TAG and the crown replaced and that has to be done with a service" Erm... It only just got replaced?

Waiting to see what happens next but lets just say the "Service" was over double this threads budget.....

Sigh....

Ooohhh that's not good!! Surely you could argue that TAG should be covering the cost of replacing the crown as it's less than 18 months old?!?!

Agreed, I did raise the point as previously I've never had [b]any[b] issue(s) with the watch prior to the crown being replaced. Its also worn so rarely that abuse isn't the problem.

The Jeweller has said he'll contact me after speaking to TAG prior to sending the watch off. I'm kind of a barrel as the watch is a massive deal to me. Hence me wanting another watch to tide me over as they are usually like 2 months in getting stuff back (TAG).

In other news that Seiko 5 I was keen on is out of stock....

Being a tight git I tend to buy second hand if I find something that I like .
I have several multi dial watches that are getting harder to read as I get older ,so this took my fancy .
The bracelet was a bit tight but I also have another Invicta that was a bit loose , popped a link from one to the other and a bit of adjustment and they both fit perfectly.
All for less than £40 .

Be gentle....

It's my first visit to the Watches thread and this thread really caught my eye. I'm after a watch around the budget and have looked at the Seiko 5.

Main reason is my "dress watch" looks like it will need to go back to TAG (I know, I know, I was young and foolish but it was a gift and has huge sentimental value).

I'd rather go new so what can anyone here recommend?

I know very little about watches and any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

(Prepares for ritual stoning)

You can't go wrong with any of the new Seiko 5 Sport range and they are respected by watch aficionados, also shop around they are usually on sales in different places so the prices vary alot.

I have the blue one with vintage aged style indices. I'm looking to grab a strap off here soon, the custom lug insert gives it the Pelagos vibe and looks spot on!

My only bit of Link trivia is that Tony Soprano wore one in the pilot episode of The Sopranos.

That's all the endorsement I'd need given I've watched The sopranos 3 times now.

I'm off to look on eBay.

Anyone fancy an opera update?

COVID has raced through the cast of Cosi fan tutte in Wiesbaden, so I’ve got the call to jump-in for one of my favourite roles, Don Alfonso.

Upside: great role, fantastic opera, only 40 minutes down the road, gorgeous theatre, decent fee.

Downside: having to (re)learn a long role that I hadn’t done in 5 years in an hour, and having to bluff my way through a complex production that I’d never seen.

Anyway, two rehearsals later and we have a show, of sorts. There are 4 (!) substitutes in a cast of 6 so, let’s just say, some of the finer details of the production might not be happening. But hey, it is what it is.

So, I mentioned the theatre. Right by the casino at the top end of the Stadtgärten. It’s rather lovely.

As always, the view from the office:

The pit looks small but runs under the stage on terracing for bigger stuff. They do lots of Wagner and Strauss here.

That bit on the left is called a ‘passarelle’, apparently. We do a lot of running about on it, over and round the orchestra.

One of the most beautiful things about the place is the crush bar, which is just sensational.

The girl singing Fiordiligi is fit, in a slightly trout-pouty way. She’s a last minute addition too.

The conductor has comedy hair and also has a speaking voice EXACTLY like Giles Brandreth, but in German, which is super weird.

Anyway, dress rehearsal was last night. Travel to Milton Keynes today, Giovanni there tomorrow night, then back to Frankfurt on Friday and premiere Cosi that night, then it’s a benefit concert for Ukraine in Frankfurt on Sunday.

It doesn’t feel very jet-set, sitting here at Heathrow bus station, eating a cold pasta salad whilst eating for a coach to Milton Keynes and trying not to get Covid.

Somewhat more attainable that the YG Day Date he wears, or the Patek he gives Brian!

After getting spammed with emails about a kickstarter watch, I stumped up. A complete fashion thing, but looks nice in black.

Came for a cheap seiko 5
Stayed for the opera updates.

The very best of luck indeed. Sometimes the stuff cobbled together at the last minute and winged a bit is the best stuff.

Flying a lot for work got tiresome for me very quickly, but I was going to some anonymous factory on an industrial estate…your place of work and co-workers are a lot more attractive!

If you don’t get that Ford Focus fixed sharpish you’ll be out of a job quicker than I can say ‘budget creep’.
