Seem to recall these being mentioned back in volume one. Anyone got any experience with this brand? Looks like a possible alternative to a Junghans Max Bill which I adore but can't afford. Plus 'Automatik' script looks super cool. €350 ish....

If you're after the 'Max Bill' look I bought one of these, from memory it was under thread budget. They also do white and black dialed variants....

Eccles, you made the right call with the cream dial I reckon. I went for the white face and whilst very nice, it's a bit too sterile for my taste so it's gone back. I'm sure I'll be going in for the cream version in due course, just not quite yet. it's a very decent piece for the money, could well be the "Steeldive Willard of dress watches"...

It was an accident. Honest.
This might be my ‘on-stage’ watch as it’s shiny but a bit banged up and has basically no value, so it doesn’t matter if it gets more dinged.

I had a similar automatic one last year that I sold on. Strangely enough the bracelet is nicer on the quartz cheapy.

I've not got one but I speak quite a bit to Kyle who runs straton, he is a true petrol head who races an Alfa.

I picked this up recently. A tad over budget but has a nice look and feel. I can recommend P1 watches as a seller.
Cheers

Very nice, thanks for that, but I've been offered one of my "grail" watches for £129 under list price, still way over budget but I'm seriously considering it.......

Be gentle....

It's my first visit to the Watches thread and this thread really caught my eye. I'm after a watch around the budget and have looked at the Seiko 5.

Main reason is my "dress watch" looks like it will need to go back to TAG (I know, I know, I was young and foolish but it was a gift and has huge sentimental value).

I'd rather go new so what can anyone here recommend?

I know very little about watches and any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Firstly, welcome to our little corner of tinternet, secondly, we don't stone, belittle, berate or any other type of put down, thirdly, owning a TAG is nothing to be ashamed of, and lastly, what style are you looking for? Do you prefer quartz or automatic?

Nobody takes the piss out of other people's choices on this thread.
Personally I love white dial watches and that Seiko would make me very happy.
At the end of the day it's you wearing the watch, so buy what you like.
And finally there's nowt wrong with a Tag, I've had two a Tag mini bought in 89/90 which got put through the washing machine after 20 years service and a formula one, given to my daughter.
Great watches.

Thank you so much for the warm welcome!

My preference would be automatic.

After getting the TAG, a few people I worked with said "Oh TAG it's rebadged generic Swiss movements blah blah blah"

By watch standards it was a modest 3k watch but means the world to me as its the first really big gift my girlfriend now partner got me.

15 years later even if a bigger budget became available I'm not sure I'd replace it. Maybe add to it.

Welcome on board. No piss taking round here, and anything goes as long as it’s at or around thread budget, or a massive bargain, or just something interesting that has caught someone’s eye!

That Seiko 5 will be reliable for years and years. If you like it, go for it.

That Seiko 5 looks great. I’m a big Seiko fan - don’t have one with a light dial and I’m starting to think I should.

One of the things I like so much about a Seiko diver is that they suit a range of different strap styles. That’s just another part of watch wearing/collecting that gives me amusement. Sad, I know.

In short - get the Seiko and enjoy (and no shame in a Tag - I’ve had one for over 10 years and it’s been a great watch)

Edited to add, agree with Greg - show us the Tag
