Why is Asia and the USA always get the best watches? Surely there is a market for the same watche in this country? All the G-Shocks that I like are never available on any English sites.

I'm quite wary of ordering from Ebay, as I know there are a lot of fakes on there.

Does anyone know anywhere reputable that I can get one of thses from?

If you want a negative display 6900, the new GW-6900BC-1ER has just been realised in th UK, so should be fairly easy to source.

http://www.g-shock.co.uk/products/GW-6900BC-1ER/

This has an easier to read display than the DW-6900MS-1 and is also solar atomic. I have the positive face version and it is a really versatile watch. It also comes with the composite bracelet that I have on another G and this is a really comfortable bracelet.

Just a great watch for outdoor use. It cost £70, positive display is great in low light conditions, has an adjustable backlight (up to 3 seconds), you can clip a clipper compass to the strap, hard as hell (like most G's) and has all the other functions that I need (24hr stopwtach, 24hr CDT, worldtime zones and five alarms).

If you don't mind what it looks like, I don't think that you can beat G-shocks if you want a great 'tool watch'. And if you like the looks, then that is just a bonus.thumbup

Ah, so you weren't necessarily saying it is better than the other G-shocks. I thought you were. My mistake!

The GW-6900 is probably better than some of the other models in the range for the things that I use it for, (mountain biking, running, hiking, swimming, gardening, etc). It's certainly more suitable for these things than the GW-M5600BC model that I also have due to easier to press buttons and the light button being on the front of the watch.

Ah, yes, I have a 5600 and it's not as easy to use as the Riseman.

Mmmmm. That is nice.

£140 from UK retailers, though. Can get the other one for about £50 + shipping. I guess customs will add a bit on aswell. Although, I have found one seller on Ebay who marks them as gifts and <$20 in value.

Bah!! This is meant to be the year where I stop wasting money on stuff I don't really need, but just want.

You guys who have G-shocks with sensors in them, do you ever use these functions?

Well, I've been monitoring the barometer in my Riseman the last few days, and it does work. It will go up and down, and the weather does seem to follow it, according to online data. It is handy to know if the weather is going to get better, or worse, i suppose. As for the altitude, not really going to be any use unless you're up a mountain. It uses the same barometer sensor, so can vary your HASL depending on the current pressure. I've gone from 140 feet eet above sea level to 220 in the same place. I think you need to get up higher to have any value from it.

Riseman here. Many times a day to predict the weather. Plus the temperature in my office.

hehe Mine is new, so keep looking at it, and keep boring people with the fact the pressure is going up, or down! haven't really used the temp, as it seems to get body heat more than anything. I reckon to get a proper reading you'll have to take it off for a bit.

I watched a youtube review on the riseman, and the guy suggested the watch needs to be taken off for 20 minutes to get an accurate temp reading.

There are too many options with the G-shock.

The Protreks also look interesting.

Yep, I have nicer watches to wear so just leave it on my desk. biggrin

The only problem with the Riseman is the arrow is next to useless IME. The graph is best for predicting the weather as you get the last 12 hours' worth of data. I've seen the arrow switch directions in a matter of seconds.

Yup, I prefer the graph...

Just a warning of where NOT to buy from - www.thewatchfactory.co.uk

Ordered a Mudman Gw9000A - came quick but the bloody thing was dirty, had no stickers/wrapping, and the battery was on M. Phoned them up and woman who answered didn't even apologise or seem bothered! $hitty company to deal with.

Hello Roofas,

We appreciate your business. I have taken time out to make sure that your shopping experience with The Watch Factory does not remain an unpleasant one.

We pride our self on quick delivery which you were very happy about.

I can assure you that every watch we post is delivered with original packaging and we take every step to ensure it comes to you at factory condition.

We are quite happy to give you a tour of The Watch Factory stock room and you can also bring in the watch that was delivered to you and exchange it for the same watch from the shelf, you can pick any box of your specific watch at random and I have full confidence that it will be properly boxed and packaged with all documents and brand new from the factory.

As far as the battery being on medium, it is a solar powered watch and being in the box would prevent it from charging and obviously loose power. Battery would start charging as soon as you take it out of the box.

And if no one on the phone apologised about you being unhappy, please accept my apologies and feel free to take me up on the offer above.

Sorry, TWF, but I'm afraid that explanation goes nowhere near far enough. I will only be satisfied as a customer if you actually send me several of these random picked watches in the post, and I will wear them for several years until I can attest to your claims.

Please contact me through PM to find out where to send these awful, terrible watches that need verification
