Well, I flew out to Geneva today and tried on both a Heritage Chrono and a Pelagos (was looking forward to doing so almost as much as the motorshow itself...) but left the store in a bit of a dilemma. I wanted to see what they were like in the metal and on the wrist thinking that I might be able to decide which of the two I preferred, but I ended up loving both of them. Big time.

Ar$e.

Still, as I've said before I may end up without a 40th birthday watch at all. Or maybe I'll end up with two. nah, not two, swmbo would ensure that I'd wake up as a eunuch the morning after the day before hehe

Sorry, not much of an incoming post rolleyeslaugh

Is the case profile of the Pelagos similar to the Heritage Chrono? I love the look of it but the slab side of the HC was one of the reasons I sold mine. Did you see both the black and grey faced HC and if so which did you prefer?

Its crap isnt it. It took me months to decide black or grey hc. Ordered a grey and thought id made a mistake . Never got it though order fell through after waiting a year. Thanks well know high street jeweler frown

Anyway im having the same issue now, hc or pelagos.

lukebird well done on the sinn. Love mine (apart from anti reflection coating on outside) its a very classy watch imo looks a lot more expensive than it is.

Never bought one as other things have always managed to get in the way... Having coughed up a load on the car this month, I shall be eating beans for the foreseeable future!

Anyway, this is what I've bought-

cool
Mmmmmm, beans, nomnomnom. Great watch Luke, congrats. Enjoy the not-even-Heinz-beans!

Lovely. I purchased a used one for a mate about 18 months ago for £350. Wish I'd kept it myself banghead

That was a bargain!
It was £678 from Jura, would have bought from chronomaster, but 0% was tempting!
Going to have a bit of a clearout though, as that was how I was going to fund the watch anyway.

Thanks for the comments chaps, can't wait to pick get it.
I've been meaning to buy one for a few years now.

Was that the one on TWF? (ETA - ah, from Jura)

I had a 556 with the metal bracelet for a while. Lovely watch, but sadly just too small for tastes. Was sold shortly after to a guy in the US...

Similar yes, but the two watches wore a little differently on the wrist. We were running a little late for the 'plane so I didn't have as much time as I really wanted with the watches and I didn't hold the two of them side by side, however from what I remember the Pelagos case looked marginally slimmer.

photos from the 'net

On my wrist the P sat on it's case back (though the lugs didn't float above my 7 1/4" wrist like they do in the photo above) with the HC sitting flatter, turning the watches over it was obvious that the case back on the HC was recessed which would account for the difference. The P's case also looked a little thinner, the brushed effect on the titanium may have created a slight optical illusion and the thinner movement itself may account for that. I'd say that they both wore as near as makes no difference the same height in all, and for my tastes neither seemed too slab-like side on. The store only had a grey faced model on display, I thought that I preferred the black but the grey really did work well and under the artificial lighting actually looked black from some angles.

Other observations - the P's bezel had a very positive action, more positive than any other watch I've tried in fact, it felt similar to my UX but with a little more effort needed to rotate it which is fine by me. The HC's bezel still felt great in comparison, I'd prefer a tachy scale as it'd be more in keeping with the original watch though it wouldn't be a deal breaker and I appreciate that the bezel insert Tudor have chosen would be of greater use. I didn't have time to play with the P's bracelet clasp but it looked and felt solid enough to me, the hollow grove that runs part of the length was of no concern, the lume on the 3 dimensional dial and snowflake handset was very cool, the watch still retained some weight to it even though it was obviously not all steel and the overall look of the watch was that of perfect restraint and subtlety. The HC has a very classy look to it, I'm a big fan of the 3/9 bi-compax dial layout and handset, and the design has already proven the test of time so it'll still be a looker in years to come, something which the P will also have covered IMO.

Yep, pretty crap laugh Still, I'm in no rush, it's just a real shame that neither can be tried on with any great ease, though having said that part of the reason why I'm attracted to them is the fact that they're not the most ubiquitous watches out there! Can't help you with which of the two to go for, would be difficult to make the "wrong" decision though.

Luke - great choice, have considered either one of those or a DA36 in the past.

@Pesty, I have a similarly frustrating story with my Daytona, and then subsequent contention with the AD who insisted I should give it back because it was intended for another customer.
I ended up keeping it smile
Though I almost never wear it as I doubt I'll ever have the money for a decent watch again. It's for very occasional use only. It's very scratched though as I wore it every day for quite a time.
I don't even keep it at my home. It's in a gun cabinet of my father's as I couldn't bear to have it stolen. Even with the insurance payout I couldn't bear to go through that hassle again!

On a positive note, apparently my 10 pound Chinese Submariner(ish) clone has arrived. I'm strangely excited.

What's the height/depth of the watch like on this one? I love CW watches (had 2 until I lost one recently cry) and would like one of their plain classic-style dress watches but I'd like it not to be too chunky. The photos on line make them look a bit thick for my liking.

Here's the £10 Chinese thing I bought out of curiosity:

I'm amazed to find that in person it actually looks nice and is bloody comfortable. I'm going to wear it tonight just because it's worth trying it out. Now all that remains to be seen is whether it keeps time or not.....
