Has the Rolex bubble finally burst? Perhaps it has

Out of interest, if I walked into a Rolex boutique or a jewellers that sells Rolex and said, 'hello, I'd like to buy a new black dial Submariner date version please,' what response can I expect to be met with?
The answer SHOULD be:"We would recommend that Sir seek out a pre-ceramic model second-hand, which will make him appear considerably more cool than one of the current models which are, and we really don't like to admit this Sir, just a little gauche"

You should pop in and ask; you never know, you might get one within a few weeks. If you don't ask, you don't get...
Haha, yes I appreciate the humour! I honestly thought Rolexes were mega mega money. Like £20k-£30k plus for ordinary models. It wasn't until I was l looking for a 40th birthday present for myself that I considered a Submariner (as I very nearly became one once). I saw the prices were £9k - £10k for a Sub new from a dealer, I couldn't believe it. Then started reading all about how they were the Porsche 911 GT3 of the watch world.
I can walk into an Omega dealership and walk out with a near £10k watch, same with Breitling and any number of similar priced watch companies. If you want to buy a luxury watch you simply go in, try it on, then erm, buy a watch if you're happy. Not Rolex. They just make it so weird and laughable, from what I've read.

I never like the aluminium bezel and so never liked the sub. However I do like the new versions so only the newer models for me
Have a 14060 non date sub of 2000 vintage , never tried a newer black ceramic version on , can’t imagine there being a massive difference to be fair .Buster73 said:

Nothing weird about it… there’s just more demand than supply. I'm pretty sure that most on here would snap up a brand new sub date at list if they were offered one with no consideration whatsoever to the material the bezel is made from.

Remember the hulk was a watch no one wanted a year or two after release. I bought mine at 20% off from an AD in the UK in sept 2012.
It's only Instagram that's made it popular
I'd have the 16610lv over the hulk every single time.

Assume they are not too popular as I was offererd one this week?Edited by Familymad on Thursday 13th June 22:04
I think it's just a case of all the full gold varieties, in that the immediate second hand values are lower than the list, so common sense says buy on the grey market and save several thousand quid.
Not sure who buys the full gold models from an AD at full retail these days.
Still a nice watch and certainly on my radar if I get permission from the boss but I need her blessing for a new motorcycle first![smile](/inc/images/smile.gif)
