I found this mid-60s Rotary automatic chrono in a box of old stuff from my grandparents when cleaning out the attic a few months ago.

Finally got around to looking at it. Shockingly, it appears to still work although I didnt dare wind it as it wont have run in at least 30 years.

Thinking of taking it to a watch restorer in NYC and seeing how much it would cost to clean it up and service the movement. At the very least it's an interesting talking point.

I'm guessing a full service and clean will run somewhere between $500-1000?
I can't quite make it out in the photo, but if it is "17 Jewels" on the dial below the pinion then it might indicate it is Manual Wind rather than Auto [Landeron 149 movement].

Here in the UK a full service on a manual wind with chrono starts at around $300 from someone who really knows what they are doing. Obviously yours has been around the block a few times and will likely need some parts, but these movements were made in large numbers and it's amazing what the experts have tucked away in little boxes.

Usually there is an inspection fee, less than $100 which is simply removing the caseback and possibly the movement from the case to see what work is required. If it hasn't suffered water ingress then it should be "doable". Chrono pushers can be completely replaced along with the stem, the case given a polish to remove the worst of any damage and the bezel looks great, just needs a dab of enamel to reinstate the index.

These style of watches (60's Divers/ skindivers) are very in vogue currently. Add in the family connection and it's worth at least having it inspected to see if it can be resurrected and at what cost.
That's good info. It does say 17 jewels on the dial, but it seems to be an auto - moving it around a bit while I was cleaning up seemed to get it ticking again?

Maybe that was just the gin drunk

I like that enough that I thought I might get one and looked it up.

It's about £14,500 more than I had anticipated.

Ordered this in October from a Kickstarter project. Heron Marinor. Very happy with it and not been off my wrist for the two weeks I’ve had it.

This has been sitting unloved and unworn for a couple of years and I’m not really sure why. Feels tiny compared to the Garmin Epix I generally wear or even the Daytona which is my goto non-sport watch.

Well, if you're going to be giving it away to get rid of it, just let me know... winktongue out

These are lovely, but how do you find the time keeping? My wife's is lousy, I mean really lousy, but apparently within parameters.

Its about 10 seconds a day too fast, i've found.

Edit: just done a proper check - 6 seconds quick per day.

Not bad, we're on the limit at around +45.

Unless set every day, she's soon 5 minutes out. Yet my cheap Chinese stuff is damn near quartz like.

45 seconds fast a day is bad - can it be taken back for a replacement?

Seiko say +45/-35 is fine.

It could do with some adjustment though, imo.

I didn't know they were the accepted tolerances, to be honest. Maybe just an adjustment, then, as you say. Annoying to have to do, but you'll be happier once sorted.
