What is going on with Insurance!!!! Need advice
Discussion
I'm looking around for Insurance on my 2007 US Pick up, But I am seriously having trouble even getting quotes!!
My current policy is with MCE who have referred my renewal to their underwriters as it 'doesn't fit their new policy structure'. Fine I start to look around, call possibly 5 other companies who CAN'T insure any LHD vehicle if NEWER than 2004 (IE less than 7 years old)...
... So why this sudden change and why is it industry wide?
Also more importantly, Who the hell are you all using?
Please tell me
Thanks

The Hummer is coming up for renewal nxt month. Last year i went with Flux. But it was dear. Tried a couple of others before hand who couldn't even give me a quote. It seems not many want to touch Hummers. I will have a good go at getting a quote before renewal is due again. I want to see if i can better Flux.
Insurance has sky rocketed generally and unfortunately we car enthusiasts, who’ve traditionally benefited from cheaper insurance policies on the understanding we are enthusiasts who take care ofour vehicles, are suffering too!
I'm with A-plan at the moment because last May, when my renewal was due, Henderson Taylor wrote to me saying they’d put their age limit up to 30 and couldn’t offer me a renewal. Or more accurately their underwriters wouldn’t insure me anymore! I was 25 at the time and paying £275 fully comp on my Camaro, and after a brief liaison with Adrian Flux which left me rather unimpressed, I chose A-plan. They seemed very professional but I still ended up paying £630 to insure a car that originally cost me £215 fully comp back when I was two years younger and had zero experience with an American car.
I'm reserving judgement on A-plan however because since I took my policy out with them in May 2010 I’ve seen the odd post or two saying they’ve got more expensive. I’ve had the car ‘laid up’ for what will be 6 months come renewal time, so I am expecting a decent discount off this years premium. If I don’t I’ll be jumping ships.
I've heard good things about Frank Pickles. My mate insures his Ginetta G27 with them and it costs him something silly like £175 a year. I intend to try them when my policy is up for renewal.

OK, Status so far: All quotes fully comp with agreed value, 5k miles.
A Plan - Waiting a callback, referred to underwriters
MCE - My current insurers, premium last year circa £500 this year £1400 HAHA!! Apparently NIG have revoked all Newer US car policies in the UK, so MCE had to go to Highways underwriters -Thanks but GET LOST.
NFU Mutual - Very nice, and I really wanted to go with them, Unfortunately even with a £500xs the premium was £711
Performance direct - waiting for underwriters to get back to them
Rainbow - Hmm I called twice, both times their systems were down, filled in the online form, NO respense
Quoterack - Filled in form, No response
Adrian Flux - I reluctantly called them, However they gave a better quote of £666 - The sign of the devil
Stevenage Insurance services - Waiting for a call back, waiting for the underwriters
Graham Sykes - Helpful, but a quote of £815 with an £1100 XS WHAT!!
Advance Insurance Brokers - Waiting to hear back from Underwriters
Henderson Taylor - Very helpful, A much better quote of £530 with £450 XS
Still looking around though.

Are A Plan refusing to insure them?
My renewal this year on the Stang was £500 through Flux, which I thought was very good.
They're very reluctant with new business and say they are now competitive only on older cars and insist on LHD experience. In fairness, mine has stayed more or less stable (around £500) but it's limited miles and garaged but does have a lot of mods.My renewal this year on the Stang was £500 through Flux, which I thought was very good.
Aside from the general across the board industry increase, the popularity of the Mustang has resulted in a far greater number being written off in the past few years and, as we know, when you have a representative quanitity and a large percentage get stuffed, the risk is easier to calculate (and avoid)and I think a lot of underwriters are now saying no.
Dr Bob, Competition Are very good, we have the viper with them as well, for a similar price too, but they won't really cover the truck as the only policy they have, covers tow vehicles.. as I don't use mine to tow to tracks or events, They said it is not really "insured".
Shovelhead, I really wanted to go with NFU, but because mine is lifted and modified, they couldn't get close enough..Out of interest how much "cash back" did you get this year?

Strangely they didn't see the supercharger as as a major mod, or the LPG conversion. I got just under 6% = £24.44 as a Mutual bonus, I have moved all my business insurance with them as they seem a bit more clued up about my trade that the likes of Direct Line etc, & you get to speak to someone who is in the UK when you need advice
