Hi,

I am helping a friend choose between a new Mustang and Camaro before he moves to the US. Can anyone reccomend a dealer in London where we could see the cars, if nothing else at least the Mustang.

Thanks,

Roo

There's not many people who will have both in stock.

I've got a new Mustang but no Camaro.

Thanks for the replies. We just wanted to have a good look around the interiors etc. He has been doing a lot of internet research but hasn't actually been inside either. I guess drives etc would be for when he gets to the US as that's were he will be buying, don't want to waste a dealer's time here in UK.

A bit O/T but I was looking at the interior (via photos) of the newish Dodge Charger the other day and it looked terrible.

Looked just like the Chrysler Voyager that I have to drive from time to time. The Mustang and the Camaro look OK but whoever designed that should be shot.

Such a shame and a bigger shame that I can't afford/justify getting an original late 60s one. Ah well.

if you want you can pop in there and see the Stang and then pop round to me to see the Camaro.
Bill is less than a mile from me.

Having both an O5 supercharged Stang and the Camaro, I wouldn't touch one of the new Mustangs.
Even the 5.0? Why not mate?

Think they look dreadful (just my opinion).
I think they have tried to go too mainstream and lost the uniqueness of the car.
I'm sure they are brilliant to drive. Lots of the reports have them out handling the Camaro, but that was never the point for me.

ps look what appeared on the Camaro today smile

Good move mate smile Did you get another set or take the ones from the 'stang?

However, ffs get those studs inverted or cut them down hehe You'll only grind them off on speed bumps anyway!!!

Look forward to seeing the beast in the metal somewhen!

Too mainstream, compared to 05-09 cars? Uniqueness? FoMoCo built more than 280,000 of them. I'd say that makes them pretty mainstream and not very unique. I quite like the '10 m/y update. The previous model was getting a bit long in the tooth - and they are so dirt-common in their home market - not so in the UK, I'm sure.

Thanks to everyone for their responses and availability, what a friendly bunch!

As a coincidence, I was travelling over yesterday and today and ended up renting a 300C estate 3.0 (diesel, alas) with the SRT pack, totally random car from Avis in Naples. I think its the second American car I've ever driven. Was quite impressed, it had some grunt and was comfortable, but slightly 'bargey' on the windy roads mind...

I'll check with my friend and see what he wants to do.

Thanks again!

sorry didn't mean main stream in the numbers sense.
I was referring to the styling.
IMHO they are trying to appeal to a much wider audience and have watered down the appearance,

ETA their aren't too many over here.
56k a year out of a market which is circa 19m cars a year could hardly be classed as dirt common.
I guess it's a relative term.
Firstly - Never any need to apologize to me.
Secondly - I must live in a Mustang hot-spot - they're everywhere - at least 10 in my neighborhood - but only one supercharged.

Hmmm, in my personal experience, SRT pack means piss-all without this bit....

In the end we poped into the American Car Dealer in Barnes as we were short on time and it was only 30mins away.

They had both a '10 Camaro SS and the '10 Mustang GT.

I think my mate prefers the Mustang as it seems to have nicer interior and make a much 'meaner' noise on startup (he was still going on about it on Sunday). To be fair, the factory setup on the SS is dissapointingly quiet at startup! I preferred the exterior looks of the Camaro but also thought that, as a package, the Mustang would be my choice.

We obviously didn't drive the cars but he will do that in the US next time he goes there.

When they designed the 2005 Mustang, Ford spent a lot of time getting the exhaust noise right and as a result, the Mustang's exhaust is actually very efficient and changes to back boxes etc only affect the noise, not the efficiency. One of the most popular mods is an electronic exhaust cut-out which gives the best of both worlds.

The Mustang is, without doubt, the better handler as Ford have upped their game and you get a Track Pack as standard and it fared very well against an M3 in a recent test and is always rated higher than it's muscle car rivals which carry far more weight.

On the other hand, I don't find the 2010-on Mustang styling very attractive and that would put me off but it all depends on your priorities. I don't know the current position but it has also historically been the case that supercharging the Ford engines is cheaper than the Chevy engines and with 600hp kits now available, it's a consideration.

On balance, I prefer the Camaro's looks but because it's so big, that in turn sways me toward the Challlenger which I think has a great exhaust note....but they are more expensive and less capable in a dynamic sense....but again, it's all relative.

2014 should be interesting (ie 2013 release) with a new Mustang on the cards and a new 3-series sized Cadillac ATS which is rumoured to be getting the 6.2 V8 in an ATS-V model. Fuel prices may kill that one though. The 2014 Mustang may also spring a few surprises with smaller engines and turbos making an appearance.

hi,the camaro ss is a far better value for money car than the mustang by a long way,+its got moden suspention, the body is galvanized, the looks are more fresh than the now old hat mustang now, plus its got more power with a all alloy motor.to get the same power from the ford you have to pay about about $20.000 more.what else can i say.

Congratulations on total ignorance.
All the road tests disagree with that pearl of wisdom and both cost about the same. The Camaro design is much older than the Mustang design. Modern suspension is fine but the Mustang still out-handles the Camaro. It does have more power but about 300lbs more weight so on a power to weight ratio, it's onto a loser. The Mustang has had an all-alloy engine since the 90s and from 2005 has variable cam timing and your last point is utter tripe unless you really mean $20.

No offence. wink

Not a fan of the new looks though - the only thing that would rule it out for me....and I'm approaching the age and the roads are approaching the point where much is academic and I'd choose the Challenger.

yes the challenger is a good looker, very tempting when standing next to its rivels even in orange the best colour, but then you look at the inside ,looks just like a chrysler L300 C and its so heavy even more so than my car.it does pull of the retro looks better than the fords.dont get me rong ive owned 2 mustangs when they were good .per 73,but not now.
