My sister is looking to hire a Mustang for a honeymoon road trip from New York to Miami next year, probably a newish one just wondered if anyone on here had good tips on companies out there that do this or even on other similar newish cars from other manufacturers? not too up on american stuff myself but pistonheads has been good for tips before so thought i'd try it again!

It's a few years back now, but we hired a Mustang convertible through Hertz. Hertz used to be majority owned by Ford, so chances were, if you booked a 'vert, it'd be a Mustang you got.

Ford have since sold their share, but I suspect the Mustang is still the default choice.

And even the "lowly" V6 now comes with 305bhp smile

Can't get a V8 out of Hertz I'm afraid in either model but I might pack a really small bag next time and get the Corvette :

Out of the 2, the Mustang had a nicer interior but overall, I preferred the Camaro.
It just looked and felt more like a Muscle Car.

Hired a Mustang 12 months ago. The new V6 model actually has a decent engine at least, but that is if it is the hire car fleet. The Stang did have a cool stereo system, and you can listen to Radio 1 on satalite radio if you really want, but the Camaro does look cool.

I wanted the Corvette, but my mate vetoed it. And the shame of it, is he is a PH'er.

Ha i'm sure they wouldn't dream of doing anything like that with a hire car wink i take it these cars are well built comfort wise for this kind of trip, and fuel in america is still pretty cheap?

$2,73 per US Gallon (3.8L) last week in Texas.

Both the Mustang and Camaro are comfy but limited on boot space for luggage.

You can pick up a V8 mustang... the "Shelby GT-H" is a automatic V8 that is available from hertz. They also offer the "ZHZ Corvette" which is a LS7 powered automatic corvette. However, I do not believe that Hertz buys either of these anymore, so it may be tough to find one to rent. If your looking for a GT, it might be best to go through a specialty car service (but you will pay way more).

the shelby mustang is long gone , zhz vetts are on their way out now to be replaced with standard vettes
