Very sad, My first yank was a Trans-am GTA in red I would still like that car now. And to me The 79 Trans-am Smokey and the bandit will always be the iconic looking car.
Well the General has killed off Oldsmobile,HUMMER,Pontiac and Saturn, I am still amazed how GMC is still about as they are just like ford/Mercury rebaged at least Pontiac had their own look and not just another chevy.

That was announced years ago.

I ran a 70 Trans Am at one point, mind you the Firebird and Camaro were pretty much identical apart from the engines even in those days. I'm not sure I really understood what Pontiac as a brand stood for. Caddy was sort of US Rolls, Buick also luxury maybe a US Jag, Chevy the sort of working mans car {apart from the Corvette}, Oldsmobile originally seemed to be aimed at older drivers like say a Rover { then came the Toronado}, not really sure how Pontiac was supposed to fit in though in the late 60s both Pontiac and Oldsmobile heavily featured muscle cars to get a more youthful image. I suppose that when you get a big group like GM doing a lot of badge engineering eventually some brands become meaningless as happened with British Leyland which had dozens like Riley, Alvis, Wolsey, etc etc
