Hi all

Can any one point me in the direction of a good source of brake upgrades for American vehicles. Having been through options in the Uk they seem limited to mainly EBC. My poor F150 lightning has been suffereing from brake fade and now warped disks.

Having looked on the net the states seem to have a fair few choices but I do not know of American brand history whats ste and not.

What concerns me is the gear over there more show than go? or stop!

I do know there are huge Brembo packages out there but at this moment nearly 4k is out of my reach.

Any recommendations would be appriciated.

Cheers

If you dont want to spend heavy coin get some slotted rotors front and rear
and fit new pads.
Dont buy drilled ones they crack up much sooner.
Got my new rotors from W-A-S-P
And I use OEM Ford pads (imported from JDM with other items from time to time)
Swap out your brake fluid as well that will frim up the pedal.
I run well over 500 RWHP on street and adjust braking acordingly
without issue.

A few years back I bought the Brembo Grand Turismo brake kit. With the exchange rate back then, about £2000. Eight piston calipers that use VW golf pads. Eight each caliper. 380mm drilled discs. The brakes won't fade and they are not overly aggresive when you use them. However be warned you have to fabricate everything yourself. Plus better still they won't fit behind the standard 18" wheels as our wheels are conical and narrow towards the front of the wheel. We had to carefully shave the calipers so the wheels fit. Clearance is a few mm. But they do look good (red calipers) and work very well.

Have looked at the brembo kit and its big big money, did not realise it needed so much done to make it fit.

There are some yank disk companys out there that do slotted design but am afraid of the quality, every one has warned me of drilled disks cracking through heat the F150 generates. This surprises me as have always used drilled disks again concerned as wondering if its a American quality disk issue?

Any one have any feed back for the EBC slotted and dimpled?

Can you recommend any good tire brands in the stock size? Hankook came recommended over the Goodyears.

Hankook are the only brand left that make a 295/45/18. Goodyears are no longer made and American tyres cannot now be legally imported into the UK. They use dirty oil apparently or in truth they do not have an e mark and better still it invalidates your insurance so I have been told. With the lousy weather coming I'm going to fit a set of all terrain tyres. The biggest I can get are 255/55/18. Guess they won't do much for the look of the truck but at least I can use it in the real bad weather.

After trying 'rotors' from the states and nearly every pair cracking above and below the drilled holes i went on to EBC Turbogroove with RedStuff pads. These work well, never had brake fade even when braking hard whilst towing my track car and trailer (1ton) and loaded with loads of tools, full tank of fuel in truck, LPG tank full (120 litre) and 100 litres of trackday fuel onboard.

I am however upgrading to Yellowstuff pads to see what they are like, Although i've had no complaints with the Redstuff

I wouldn't buy any from the states again. I now use EBC discs on my other cars too

Thanks

Appriciate the feed back.

After trawling through all the American sites and Ebay US I was disapointed how few companys wanted to ship to the Uk. Shame as found a state side company listing the EBC Ultimax disks, I then contacted EBC Uk and they said they do not have them availible over here only the dimpled and grooved version.

It would seem they are the best availible bolt on option here. The only next desicion will be yellow or red pads as living in Milton Keynes its like a short sprint race between roundabouts and very quickley causes the disks to warp and fade fast not fun in a 2 tonne plus truck!

I've run mine with reds and yellows and both do the job just fine. Start with reds, I've used them towing my track car and had no problem braking hard from 80 loaded with tools etc too. If you don't find them adequate fit yellows next

I've got EBC on my 07 F150, improvement over the original brakes, less fade. Good value if you don't want to go for a big brake conversion.
