Hi New F150 lightning owner
Discussion
Hi all.
New owner of a 2001 Lightning, still cant stop smiling yet.
Does any body now of any American biased garages in Buckinghamshire as I live in Milton Keynes.
The truck has most of it life been looked after by West Midland American Vehicles Ltd with lots of love and monie spent there but they are a bit far for a service etc.
Another question does any one recommend any particular company for LPG conversions seen a few lightnings on the net with them but cannot find specific details of which system and were fitted as she is a thirsty girl.
The vehicle has also had in its past an induction air filter kit and stainless pipes fitted, does one need the fuelling adjusted to suit on these? or are the self regulating the reason i ask is after years of bike racing I know fueling takes a hit with after market filters/pipes. Trucks are new to me.
Last two, were can one get good brake pads other than the EBC ones on E-bay I have seen or is it best to import from America? and any one had dealings with Newport Imports in Kent any feed back?
Thanks for your help.

A mate has recently bought a Lightning and had it LPG'd and wanted me to get mine done at the same time. I said lets see how yours goes. Guess what I'll live with the fuel consumption which at around 19mpg ain't bad. Plus I did drive his on gas and it does blunt the performance. Bit like running with the air con on.

How are you getting 19mpg!!!!!!!
Driving around with the odd blast on the noisey button I have worked out I am getting around 7mpg!! 12mpg at best
Other wise I have to drive it slower than my Zafira and thers no point in that!
Thats a hell of a lot worse than my Hummer.Driving around with the odd blast on the noisey button I have worked out I am getting around 7mpg!! 12mpg at best

Seriously I've owned three of these now. All averaged between 17-19mpg. Seems to stay about the same however driven.Driving around with the odd blast on the noisey button I have worked out I am getting around 7mpg!! 12mpg at best

My HD F150 weighs approx 800lbs more than a Lightning and is seriously modded.
I get 15mpg in bumper to bumper town driving and 18mpg mixed. If I leave he cruise control on at 70mph, I get 22mpg.
Yeah its not good on the fuel for sure.
The truck has a free flowing exhaust on it and the previous owner fitted an induction kit, free flowing pod filter. My experiance from bikes is that you all ways need to alter the fueling aftre mods like this have been done. Do Lightnings need dyno runs and a map? or do they self adjust via the lambda sensor?
My old S4 around town gave around 20mpg and a lot lot less on the noisey button, the dash readout would say 5mpg! my freinds Range Rover sport strugggles to get above 15mpg on average so I thought maybe an old yank v8 would be a lot worse.
I have a dyno near me so rekon a run is needed if nothing else to get some gas analysis to see how its burning the fuel.

yeah def do that.
In the passed i have had cars with the leaky exhaust say manifold to head joint
or a leak around a down pipe and it absolutley kills fuel mpg.
So maybe check the exhaust.Oh and the lamda sensors would adjust fuel slightly but
not enough.
My pulley kit came with a hand held programmer, which has altered fuel and timming etc.
But the better way would be on the dyno.
cheers
