You can take it to Bauer Millett and get fleeced or buy yourself a cheap scanner to read the code. Have you ever changed the oxygen sensor(s)?

Well without a code reader, it's hard to be prescriptive. I had a 1985 Vette and the engine light was triggered by a clapped O2 sensor and I've had a '98 Z28 where the light was triggered by a duff electronic EGR valve.

I would get it checked out it could be an 02 sensor who maybe loads of other things! Not sure where in the country you are?

Try - Ian Goss Services Surbition
Stratstone Wavenedon Milton Keynes
Whitequay Reading
And Bauer Millett

I would rather pay and find out what the problem is before it turns into a more expensive problem.

Yes, get it code read as soon as possible to prevent damage - local Vauxhall or Saab dealer possibly?

It could just be that the MAF sensor needs cleaning or replacing - this has cropped up in relation to the CEL on the US owners forum which is very informative and helpful.

Do let us know how you get on.

Dear dear, the term fleeced in only relative to doing it yourself. What do you charge per hour? You are right though, I do my own servicing as it's DIY stuff.

I disagree. If you wanted to you could have worded it that way. Personally I find it disheartening, especially given we always try to give 100% commitment to customer service. Our audited first time fix rate of 95% speaks for itself. The costs involved in keeping a business alive, as well training technicians, updating equipment and facilities whilst always trying to better customer expectations hardly makes our £80+VAT hourly rate seem like a 'fleecing'.

Don't forget to factor in staff training having correct tools to do the Job, Updates for dealership Tech 2, Recalls and Software updates etc etc. But hey having a Link to GM Technical and hours of knowledge will never beat Fred in the shed doing a quick oil and filter change on a car!

Fair points. Maybe the term was a bit strong and I'm glad there are people who do offer the support. Hope you don't mind if I save the £100 and change my own oil though. wink

Not an issue in the world, my beef is with defamation. Besides, we do more than the obvious stuff when people bring cars in. We religiously check for any outstanding warranty recalls or safety bulletins as well. We're northerners, we work for it up here.

That will endear you to southerners, I'm sure. wink
