Just picked up 4.7v9 wj grand cherry and the brakes are very iffy. Suspect warped discs and know that this is a known fault. Does anyone have any experience of the caliper upgrades from the later model?? Otherwise also have some vibes at 80-90leps - and play in steering. Any advice what to look at first?

iffy brakes and wandering steering....I'd check the lower ball joints and bearings first.

But if it is indeed warped discs (check run out with the wheel off) it may have had locked up front calipers from disintergrating front brakes lines causing discs to overheat.

So I have found out that 1999/2002 GCs have teeves callipers and later akebonos are much better and it was either a recall or aftermarket swap.
Has anyone else tried this?

yea i did the swap, think the kit is around $325 now using Akebono silver calipers, worked great. Hate to think what it would cost from Jeep UK

though the pads arent cheap $130 in the US (got a new set on the way)

the calipers work with the stock discs, though its advisable to swap those at the same time

Thanks - do the callipers fit on the same hangers? I can get discs, calipers and pads for arround £320 new. That's around $190 at the moment.
