Hi. I am thinking of emigrating from the UK to Canada and when I search ebay in Canada, there are lots of cars listed in the USA. Can I buy a car in the USA and just drive it into Canada? Or are there restrictions such as minimum months ownership etc?
thanks

You can't just buy it and drive in - there's a process that you have to go through.

Thanks Joe Rotax..I have subsequently raised a question on www.beyound.ca and have found out some useful info. Apparently, some folks provide this importation service (for a fee) which seems fair enough. I might give them a try

Interesting site - never seen it before.

I know at least one person on this site www.ccfbg.com who has brought a car in from the US and I'm pretty sure there were some others as well as discussion threads about how to go about it. You could search the site or just register and ask - they are a pretty dull crowd but someone should have the answer based upon their own experience.

I think that if you're bringing the car in yourself you have to have everything faxed to the relevant customs office and let them know beforehand when you're coming through. Could also try this site as well for info www.casc.on.ca

Depends what type of car you want but pretty much anything available in the US is available here and the benefits to importing seem to be marginal from what I've seen. Once you get here you might find what you're looking for locally.
