As an owner of one, I try and keep track prices on the second hand market.
Of late the market has been quiet without many cars about and prices have been a bit all over the place. There are still the odd one that comes up at 4-5k, but there seems to be an increasing number going for bigger values.
Auto trader has:
£4.5k
5.7k
7.2k
8k
10k
pistonheads:
6.7k
6.9k

Are they finally starting to appreciate? Can't help thinking all the new 5th gen must increase the awareness of this underate (IMHO!) car. Mind you what people are asking is one thing (like 10k), what they sell for might not be the same.

I'm a bit 'meh' on the new 5th Gens myself (not that I've seen one in the tin yet), but FWIW here's me favourite 4th Gen

I have to admit that I can't generate any enthusiasm for the V6, I guess as a 200bhp convertable they are excellent value and could have an appeal.

No v8? Not for me.

i think some peoples are just wanting stupid prices, tbh i got a spotless Z28 3 years back nearly for much less than the going price of the cars now, plus in this economic climate the market is smaller, maybe people pay more for the better ones?? if you can find a difference between a clean 6K car or a clean 8K car. Infact a year after I bought mine many of the cars, especially at dealers were still for sale, for about 500 quid less. clearly they are not costing any money just to sit there.

Still 10K is a joke unless its got 3000 miles and like new, literally. I'd still rather pay 5-6K for one with a few more miles and parking dings, 4K is a lot of MODs biggrin

Prices of all American cars are going up due to the plummeting dollar exchange rate, now down to 1.44 from the 2.2 we had in 2008. What that means is you can't import a decent car cheaply any more.

Shouldn't really affeft the prices of cars already in the UK though? Do many 4th Gen Camaros actaully get imported each year from the 'States?

Of course it affects the prices of cars already in the UK... Its simple supply and demand. The cars in the US are a lot more expensive in terms of buying them with your sterling, so people who would normally go looking in the US can't afford to ship something in, which simply means more people are more likely to buy a car which is already here, heightening demand and thus the market price.

But are there actually that many 4th Gen Camaros being imported from the States each year? I don't remember seeing any advertised as "recent imports" or such, apart from a few V6's from Japan. Most seem to have been imported around the time of production.

Given most are going for 5-6k I'm surprised it would be worth the costs to import from the states? After shipping, Taxes etc I can't see much of a profit left.

This is my point. If they aren't being imported from the 'States and it's only those already in the country that are being put up for sale, the weakness of the pound v dollar is irrelevant in any price rises.

Well I bought mine a month or so ago for 6k and I was happy with that even though it had about 80k on it... then again from my perspective it was an SS with full leather so that was worth a little extra.

I know a mate of mine was asking a dealer how much for his immmaculate 98 WS6 T/A (30k, history, TT2s and some sympathetic mods) and was getting ass-raped on quotes (I think the *best* he was offered was 4.5k)

4.5k being offered by a dealer though - they offer less to add their mark up surely. Surely a WS6 should easily still fetch over 6-7k.

My 99 Z28 I bought for 6.5k nearly 3 years ago - remember at the time prices were a bit varied even then. I ended up getting mine for quite a lot less than it was on for.

They will keep tanking until 3rd gens take off.
The lt1 especially. The LSx ones hold up much better due to the engine
