Hey! Just wondering if a 1987 Chevvy Camaro 305 V8 IROC-Z (injected) would be OK or not with unleaded?

I'm dithering on whether to buy one I've seen for sale locally. Nice motor, the only thing putting me off a little is that its manual transmission.

I know, I know!

Any thoughts?

Cheers

Andy.

Lead free no problem.

Most Yank stuff since early 70's was lead free from new.

WTF? Are you serious? I've got 1991 Z28 automatic and I would swap it for manual any day.

Have you ever driven a manual?

I used to have a '79 Camaro, same engine but a good ole 4-barrel carb instead of injected, and that was good to drive.

Isn't a manual a lot to handle?

I do have a TVR Cerbera right now by the way, but I know the Camaro is more torquey lower down.

I had a manual Camaro for a while and it was the best fun. Never had any worries with it. The Yanks switched to unleaded around 1976 so no problems there. Just look out for leaky T-tops, the rubbers perish, then lower it and put some big rims on!! Cool!!

Go for it. The manual gearbox is the good old Borg-Warner/Tremec T5 and is quites a slick little gearbox compared to GM's later efforts. I had a 1987 5.0 Z28 with the same box.

Rust-wise, check the rear arches and the inner sill behind where the exhaust runs at the front. The interior is nothing to write home about and will squeak and rattle like a bh but they did that new as well.

Don't the fuel gauges have 'Unleaded only' written on them? Both mine did!

Small tip. Take the indicator units out and drill some small holes under them as the gap draws in water by capillary action and then the unit draws in water the same way. It's also a pain when you wash it, constantly dribbling from the gap. The holes allow it to drain away.
