I've managed to use my camaro as my 'family' car over the last few year. Family holidays with 4 are quite possible even when you want to take 3 motor bikes with you
Alas my daughter is now 5 foot 6 and still growing its putting her in the back is becoming unfair.
So what can I replace it with? I need a 5.7 manual car! with 4 doors

impala SS are all autos
There is a kit to convert to 6 speed manual, but we are talking rare rock horse sh*t in the UK. there has been one for sale recently. Complete with 20 inch chrome wheels and flame paintwork. Not really what I had in mind...
I'd forgotten about the v8 MG ZT-T. Hmm - how have you got on, they have a reputation as needing the owner to complete the vehicle development...

It has been excellent. The only problem I have had with it was the failure of the sat nav drive, which needless to say is a BMW part. I bought a replacement one for £100 from someone on the owners club. Apart from that, nothing has gone wrong in nearly 30,000 miles. There is a kit to convert to 6 speed manual, but we are talking rare rock horse sh*t in the UK. there has been one for sale recently. It eats tyres like no car I have ever owned and it is not as fast as the Camaro. But, it has all the toys you could ever need, is very comfortable and with a set of XPower exhausts it sounds very good too. I have been very pleased indeed with it. Having said that, as soon as the kids can drive it will be a Vette for me!

It depends on your budget.
In your shoes, I would import a 2004 -on Cadillac CTS-V which came with the C5 Z06 engine turning out 400hp. It also comes with a 6 speed manual.

The upside is that they have orange front and rear indicators for an easy SVA test and the fact is that it should also keep its value as they are very very rare in the UK. It handles reasonably too - matching the Monaro round the Top Gear track.
I shoukld have imported one myself instead of buying my Mondeo....

Maybe the answer lies in something more like these Alas my daughter is now 5 foot 6 and still growing its putting her in the back is becoming unfair.

Whilst the Camaro may be what my American friend refers to as trail park trash, better that than a pikey truck.
currently the short list is:
MG ZT
BMW M5 (e34 - OK its not a V8 )
Land Rover discovery
I think the caddy is too expensive for me.

Whilst I haven't checked, I can't imaging there is much more room in the back of a Monaro, then the z28.
this is my main family car, for me and my wife and 2 kids. Holidays have always been a bit of a push in term of room, but now the kids are teenage, it really is getting unkind to fold them into the back for long car journeys, that and the lack of rear windows does cause car sickness.
I breifly own this
which solved the space issue and the kids LOVED it. Stil the best way to do long motorway miles with children, but a all time best of 14mpg was painfull, as was paying for a coach parking bay, because it was too big for anything else..
I forgot to mention the Holden SS. Top idea, but they are rare. There are a couple on autotrader both at over 10k (12 and 16k). I did look at import costs from Oz, but at my budget 4-10k, the costs don't make sense. I'm also a little nervous about such a rare beast - will parts be a problem?

The Holden is 90% Monaro and there is a thriving Holden community which links to this forum who are alwways ready to help out. I know two people who've had Holdens with no problems. It's not the best looking car in the world but it does the job. The only real alternative is a Jag of some sort but I don't think they're exactly huge in the back.

pretty sure all the Jags are Auto not for me.I called the garage with the 2 holdens for sale. helpful chap, but thinks I'll struggle with holdens as my price. Whilst he may have a slightly biased view, I suspect he's right. I'm a tight g*t at heart and 10k is too much for me.
Just been recommended an 3.8 E34 M5, by a BMW specialist, who has been servicing it for the last few years. Had a £3.5k 'refresh' last year. Sounds a lovely one and I'm going to see it this weekend.
I think I prefer the later E39 but an M5 has always appealed to me, despite my intrinsic dislike of nearly all things BMW. £3.5k for a refresh though, those are the sort of figures that makes the tight git in me clench my buttocks even more tightly.
After years of Americana, I really do flinch at servicing costs for cars that are really no better but in this case, I suppose it's a question of finding an alternative. Even those MGs hold their value.
