I'd go for the Ford Charger myself, then you can have your cake and eat it.

This is an easy one.

The Dodge Charger is a derivation of the Chrysler 300C. It is essentially an old Mercedes platform and not that much fun to drive. The only one worth considering would be the SRT/8, which this isn't. It's basically a heavy 4 door car and that is fine, provided you need the room for kids - but when I hired one in the US, the kids couldn't see out because of the haunches. So looks good but not a great car. The Monaro and VXR8 are better cars.

The Mustang GT is leagues ahead, all prejudices aside. However, you do need to find out who did the SVA test BEFORE you buy as they are sometimes done badly. The Mustang is a far better drive, far better handler and a lot lighter so your 300hp goes further. that is not to say it's a perfect car - it does require lowering and better suspension which can be done for about £1200 all in for Roush underpinnings.

If you're serious, pop across to the forums on www.s197.co.uk or www.mocgb.net for a full vetting of any prospective purchase.

The Mustang will depreciate far less.
It has better support from the various forums and plenty of people around who know how they work.
It has a massive aftermarket and unlimited potential.
Mustang GTs come in two basic flavours - Premium trim which is what you need or the altogether less desirable full-fat plastic Deluxe which is OK for limited funds but not the best choice in the long term.
Look for the 18" wheels as the original 17's have high-profile 235/55 tyres and a limited choice of replacement rubber.

The Charger will doubtless be serviceable by normal Chrysler dealers but the interior is very plasticky indeed.
