Hi - maybe not the standard fare on Yank Motors.. but probably a good place to ask: after several dodgy Land Rover products (Disco, P38 Rangie) having drained my finances I am considering a Jeep and hoping for less maintenance hassle. They look well made and fairly simple - I'd be interested in any buying advice and good/bad experiences. I'm looking at one from around 1997 with the four litre petrol engine, maybe a little later if I can afford one.

Thanks in advance..

I had a 1997 4.0 and it was bulletproof. I would advise no earlier than 1997 as the 4.0 was upgraded with some refinements that year.

Only advice I can give is that the back axle is a weak point. Listen for clonking at the back end! Other than that very good and reliable.
