'55 Chevy 210 Maintenance
Discussion
I have just bought a 1955 Chevy 210 3.9 litre straight six blue flame 4 door sedan. The engine has a slight missfire and I am not sure whether it is just a timing issue or something more serious. The car shows an indicated 68k on the odometer and has had an unleaded conversion c/w cat. I would also like some tips on keeping the chrome clean, which products to use and how to take off any surface rust to bring the chrome back to a gleaming finish. The drivers side of the bench seat is also very worn so not sure if can be repaired or needs completely recovering? All tips greatly appreciated!
First I'll translate that into American for you
I have a 55 Chevy two ten with a two three five.
I would start off by squirting carb cleaner into the carb, including the acc jets. repeat a few times.
If you feel you have to adjust the timing make sure you do the dwell first.
I have no idea of the BTDC, but you could clean the marks and go from there.
With regard to mileage the well worn seat and the year I would guess that is perhaps not the first 68K.
5 digt odometer yes?
That is not a problem for those old straight sixes.
If the seat is just sagging and not too worn, and you don't want to spend too much money on it (yet) I would pull out the seat and check the springs, it's not unusual to have one broken or has popped out of its groove.
With regard to the chrome, just polish it is about all you can do. Those bumpers are available but the freight from the US would kill you, those are very heavy.
