Gents,

trusting you know more than this particular subject than me, I need to talk engines.

Part of my long term plan for a corvette is chosing an engine. Choice seems between a Edelbrock 350 435 E-Tec or an LS2 or LS3. Now bearing in mind this car is a long term keeper - Plans to be a 1961/2 Corvette restomod I am looking for some pragmatic advice on which would be the better option to go with.

And suggestions?

Depends on what 'look' you're going for...?

Just updated running gear restomod or full on bling-ing awful with silly oversize chrome wheels and shed loads of billet stuff....?

The former - The Edlebrok
The latter - one of the modern LS engines

... probably half way between the two. New chassis and interior. Not bling, not gauche, understated tripple black

The conversion to the late model engine might throw you a few curve balls. IMO you are better off with a SBC hipo crate engine of some description maybe like the edlebrock or sdparts.com zz4 or whatever they call it. Simple drop in then.
You can fit a holley or similar plug and play efi setup onto it if you liked.

Sign up the following linked forum for serious pros and cons of both options.

There's a good few owners on there that have done the LS engine route as well as the trad restorod route.

If you want it to sound right you need to go SBC.

For futureproofing and long term economy go LS.

I have 2 cars with SBC`s and 1 with an Ls7, and the only way you`ll get an LS to sound anywhere near as nice is to chop up the exhaust pulses with a couple of Turbos.;)

thanks for the replies.

I've had a look at the corvetteforum - some stunning cars on there and very much in line with what I am planning.

Cheers

I did the the 383 crate engine and 5 speed manual conversion on my 77' camaro, which I am very happy with.......
However....... If a cheap second hand LS motor and six speed box had come I probably would have gone that way instead...

If it were me, being power mad, I'd fit a LS7 and be done with it. It'd make the ultimate restomod job.

505hp out of the box and rock bolt standard.

A cheaper option than building a hot SBC in my opinion.

So it doesn't sound as good as a pukka SBC, but what the heck!

My Belmont is old school, but the next project will be LS7
