'THE' car to have in America?
Discussion
Just watched Top Gear today, the Corvette ZO6 vs Cadillac 'fast saloon' vs the Dodge Challenger - 3 great looking and great sounding cars.
Just wondering though - what are THE performance cars to have in the States at the moment??
If i lived over there, im sure i'd be itching for the Caddy. Looks great.
The Challenger has the heritage though so that might be a persuader.
Also, i've seen the Charger and the hot mustangs too, and the 300C's are nice as well.
Charger - what a fantastic name for a car!!

The list isn't that different from what you'd have in Europe, except America offers some extra options. Ignoring exotica such as a Ferrari, Lambo or McLaren SLR, if a BMW M5, Mercedes AMG, Porsche 911 were not to your taste you might look at a Shelby GT500, a Corvette ZR1 or a Cadillac CTS-V or STS-V.

When I lived in Houston, there was more 'bad asse' Vipers than 'stangs, vettes' etc.
I don't know if it is regional, but the 'stangs and 'vettes tend to be more left as stock.
Then almost every Viper was non-stock in one way or another.
Any way, if your in Houston, skip the car's and get a truck !
I was at Houston Drag way, and watched a Ram 350, murder a Subaru down the strip.
The Scooby was infront for the first 100 yards, then the truck just bombed past, the Scooby was left for dead !
Amazing ! some of these truncs, oh, yes, the truck was diesel !!!!

My 5.4l F150 could put in a decent 1/4 mile, God that truck was fun.
As for *the* car to have in America - for me it would have to say my old Chevelle - everywhere I went in it I got masses of attention, especially when I opened my mouth and people heard the English accent

I don't think there is a single answer. America is a weird place sometimes. Some of it will be regional but you also get followers of specific brands. A Ford fan would never buy a Chevy, no matter how good it was and how bad the Ford is. And vice versa.Just wondering though - what are THE performance cars to have in the States at the moment??

Also depends where you look.
Trucks are BIG business over there and have been for several years, specifically diesel ones. They get these things making over 800hp and 1200lb ft abnd will wipe the floor with even a modded Vette or Viper.
Older performance cars are still popular. Fox Mustangs have been constantly rising in price for several years. They make a very good car to build for track use or fast road use. LS1 Fbody's are still quite a performance icon. Then of course the cars you've already mentioned.
There is also a strong following of imports too. Evo's and Impreza's although most plump for Honda's and add turbo's. The Dodge Neon also competes in this category.
