Ford F250/F350 - or go for F150?
Discussion
I'm looking for something "different" to doa bit of posing and some add some utility to the fleet.
Fancying a pick-up and have a mate who can get very good deals on anything Ford. I like the look of the new "SuperDuty" Ford;s - especially once they've had a few odds and ends on them (like a lift and some decent off road toys)
I've been considering a Ford F250 or F350 - the "Harley Davidson" versions (comes with all the "toys" as standard) - with either the V10 petrol engine or the V8 "Powerstroke Diesel" (660lb ft at 2000 RPM!) - in a "Crew Cab" body and a shorter bed length.
Couple of questions for those in the know! :-
1) whats the difference between the 250 and 350 - is it just the payload (i.e the 350 has heavier rated axles?) or are there other fundamental differences? (pricing seems very similar)
2) Anyone have any experience of the v8 Powerstroke Diesel? is it a pig and would I be better off with the V10 petrol (more or less same power but a lot less Torque)
3) I assume UK registration may present "challenges" - but theres always a way!
4) Am I mad and should I just get the newly announced 09 F150 harley Davidson Crew Cab with the V8 petrol??
Thanks in advance for any advice!
Well it depends on what you are after really. If its pose or performance or a bit of both.
I run a 2007 F150 Harley which is the Saleen Supercharged version. I had a 2003 F150 HD S/C for a while and wanted a newer version. I tried the Roush '07 F150 but it left me dissapointed with the performance...as did the regular Saleen F150 HArley until I had JDM do some mods and waken it up..
There are other choices too....
Saleen do their S331 Ford F150 Supercrew which is a very quick truck and looks great...
JDM (who worked on the trucks for Saleen and are a Saleen Speedlab dealer) have themselves developed their version of what a 2009 Lightning would be if SVT built one. It is a single cab with a 660bhp (550rwhp) V8.
Both Saleen and JDM trucks are available through the Ford dealership network in the US.
I also love the look of lifted trucks and the F2/350's look great when done this way...Havent seen many over here so that would certainly turn heads and would be a right pain in the arse to drive and park anywhere in the UK...LOL
Nice Harley Davidson version.F350?
F550..
Or for definate pose value what about the F650......
and for scale....LOL
Hope this helps

not quite the same but ive brought over 2500 & 3500 rams, if your doing any towing then the 1500 are just a toy, the 2500 & 3500 are totally different beasts, the 2500 are easy to sva, but the 3500 are right on the weight limit, & I think a F3500 4X4 is over the weights ie have to under 3250kg unladen & the gvw has to be less than 5250kg, but the sva is just chaging so not sure on new rules, i use a ram 3500 as a daily user & love it, just have to use your brain on tight mini round abouts & park @ the back at asda, easy 20+ mpg with cummins in it, couldn'd 'aford' to run a petrol !
turns more heads than my 69 roadrunner, GET ONE BOUGHT

Hi cant give any tech info sorry, but i drive a ford f150 lightning running 500 bhp ,15-20 ave mpg driven with restraint but if you can have as a toy then fill her up on the good stuff floor it and you will smile like you just lost your cherry.... 5-8 mpg oh yes.. best way to describe is a bar of soap dry no problems in wet slippery as fk........
I've run Ram 2500/3500's daily for the last 5 years and i love them but i do a fair bit of towing. The only thing i would say is if you never carry or tow anything a 1500 would probably suit you better as they have a softer ride and are generally more car like to drive.
I have an 06 Ram 1500 Hemi 2WD for sale which i'll be putting in the classifieds in a few days time if you're interested.

I'll agree with the inthe wet comment - it's interesting lol... also scary quick given how big it is (it also grips better and handles better than the SRT10)... if you want a cheap one to play with mine's for sale or if you fancy something a little newer or different colour still try an L Edited by irocfan on Monday 23 February 22:22

The 250 is single rear wheel only (SRW). The 350 comes in SRW & dual rear wheel (DRW). For information 450s and 550s are DRW only. The 350 gets some beefier components, and with DRW you get much more capability - especially when towing a gooseneck trailer.1) whats the difference between the 250 and 350 - is it just the payload (i.e the 350 has heavier rated axles?) or are there other fundamental differences? The Powerstroke has much better torque and is far more economical on fuel than a V10. The V10 is mechanically simpler though.dealmaker said:

There are plenty of SVA people who can help.dealmaker said:

I'm in full on truck research mode now, test drove an F 250 Crew Cab lariat with a long bed. 6.4L diesel and its a beast that swallowed a luxury car. I honestly couldn't believe how nice and extremely roomy the interior was compared to the competition.
I've spoken to a lot of Ford fanatics and truck forums and the consensus seems to be that the 6.0l power stroke has given owners a lot of headaches and fuel injector problems. The newer 6.4 seems to be winning over a lot of hearts and minds though...

What did I tell you

The Ford trucks interior and ride is far better than than the compertition.
I recall Ford starting the 'Turn around' from truck to truck / car qualities around 1996.
My friend Eric has a 2004 F150, the interior is like Ford took it out of the Navigator !
Stunning !
I have to agree with you Vette.
Truck interiors are no longer spartan and dull, having driven quite a few now I can safely say that even the basic spec interiors really aren't too bad and offer a lot more for your money than a similar priced "white van" in the UK.
I prefer the ride and handling on road of the GMC/Chevy 2500 silverado over Dodge and Ford's equivalent but the refinement in the Ford just blew my misconceptions away. It really would suit me down to the ground with multiple power outlets, usb connectivity, MS SYNC, acres of room in the cab and the feeling of cruising in a comfy leather armchair on the freeway.
Dodge's still have the Cummins though which is a huge selling point for me and their interiors have improved a lot over the last 4-5 years. It's going to be a tough call, especially since '08 stock is being heavily discounted across all the makers....
