It really depends on lots of things, mostly age but heads, intake, cam what the engine was in orginally.cheers

The Ford 302ci or 5.0 has been around for a long long time. And before that in a 4.7 or 289ci form.
Also watch for HP rating as they changes over the years. Pre 1973 most American cars where rated in GROSS HP and this was pretty pointless and bared no relation to the actual HP the engine in a produciton car made.
I think the 289 was rated at 250hp Gross, in moder SAE Net ratings it'd probabdly be 170bhp at most.
As for the 302, well I think in the dark days of the mid/late 70's they went as low as 134bhp. In the late 90's they picked up with a maximum of 225bhp. However a year later Ford had to revise how they rated/tested for SAE Net figures and the engine was re-rated at only 215bhp SAE Net.
With enough mods you can get them over 300bhp but you have to remember they are an old school engine from the 60's and hp/litre is never going to be great on them for a street motor.
If you want to tune one, then there are lots of options however. One of the most common is to go for a supercharger. You should be able to see around 400hp in such a setup depending on other parts.
