Guy lives over the back of me has the yellow/black stripes 5.7 Ram RT 2wd and said he gets 11mpg but 9mpg sometimes. That compares to 20-24 for my blown Mustang.
Theres something wrong with it then I gt between 15 and 20 out of my 5.7 Hemi Ram and mines a 4x4. Mind you if you have a heavy foot then yes they can drop but ive been flat out in mine and can only get it down to 11.5.Ash

I ran a '99 R/T Sport Quad Cab here in US from 2001 until 2004 (it had been lightly used prior to me getting my hands on it). From a drivetrain perspective it was pretty unburstable, but slow and thirsty - 11-15mpg. It had horrendous knobbly tires on it that were noisey and harsh-riding.
Don't now if this is a common issue, but the steering system on this truck was scary. Because it was a gradual problem, I didn't notice it, but whenever anyone else drove it, they said how vague the steering was. On reflection, the amount of 'slack' in the steering (movement of the steering wheel that didn't influence the road wheels) was bloody ridiculous. I took it to the dealer who supplied it (Orlando Dodge) and got the hilarious, "Ah yes, they all do that".
To summarise - big, imposing, lots of torque, great tow vehicle are good points - and the not so great are - rear seats for legless midgets, slow, creaky, hideous plastic dash and the fact that (in the case of my Ram 5.9) you don't so much steer it, as prevent it from crashing.

I think these two are probably linked, My friend changed from big 'road' tyres on his Hi-lux to full 'mud' tyres and it drove terribly, vague steering, loadsa road noise etc....
Well done bluethunder, enjoy the new truck... !
