Its from a written off 2006 model. I am thinking about buying the engine and box and getting them put in my Scimitar I know the engine is a heavily reworked Cologne and will fit but have no data on the box.

The box is a Ford 5R55S. It is an electronically controlled unit.
I do have a fair amount of info on it.

What do you want to know?

Ah I was afraid that would be the case. Would pretty much need to know how the control works. What the expected inputs are etc. It may be simpler for me to use an A4LD since the specialist already knows about them

But, If your using the V6 engine, unless stripping off the fuel injection. You'll need the PCM which also has all the control for the transmission. THe actual amount of wiring between the PCM and gearbox ain't that great.

just for the record, the mustang hasn't used the reworked cologne for many many years...(since the mid 80's)

the 4.0 or 3.8 motors in the 94 onwards mustangs are a ford US design. the 94 - 98 engines weren't super powerful (but not lemons head gasket issue asside) for 99 the 3.8 pushed out 200bhp, and when re designed again as a 4.0 it punched it a tad more, and a significant chunk more torque..

the 4.0 is a very good engine

this is the 3.8 from 96

BTW - did you know Benetton did the engine management for them?

Are you sure about that? I understood it was very simiilar to the Ford Explorer engine which definately is a Cologne. http://home.att.net/~CapriClubChicago/Cologne.html and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ford_Cologne_V6_engin... both say the the Mustang V6 is a cologne.

pretty sure, the 4.0 in the ranger and explorer is a different engine all together to the later mustang engine..

note there is no 3.8 on the cologne displacemnt list...

dad used to have an XR4i and there is absolutely no similarities in the mustang engine at all..the mustang engine is a very thin wall casting, and the 4.0 in the newer stang is again totally different, with over head cams, as opposed to the pushrods of the 4.0 cologne..
