Guys,

Anyone confirm the VAt and duty situation for importing a vehicle built in 1962? Once all duty is paid I guess its just a case of MOT then down to the DVLA for registration.

Anyone got any info?

Import duty and VAT are the same as if it were a new car Kev, only difference being it doesn't require an SVA

Bugger, I thought the Duty was different for a used classic than a new one.
Ok thanks I will get the calculator out then. Best to work out what 25% of the total car +shipping will be for a ball park figure then I guess

It is different for classics but it is all to do with how they perceive a classic i think,LV51VER might know more...Wayne where are ya?

They used to allow 5% on various classics but then everybody claimed their sh*t-heap was a classic so HMC&E told everyone to get stuffed about 5 years back. Now it's 10% for everyone bar historic vehicles of historic importance and I think stuff where so few exist that it is of historic interest. I'm not sure of the exact parameters but suffice to say they're not too accommodating these days as it's revenue.

cheers Wayne. Still worth doing then even if the Government take a big slice still.....The vehicle is only costing £3000 excluding the shipping so I should only cost around £4500 approx.

TT,

Ahhh didnt say I was importing it...LOL

1962 Ford Country Sedan Station Wagen. Its for a customer who is into Amercian cars and he is after a surf wagen of sorts. This one is white with a teal blue roof so with a hint of heavy metalflake on that part and a new interior should look good parked up with a couple of surf boards on the roof next year.

Wow, both of those look fantastic.

If only today's wagons were so good looking. Only the 300c/Magnum is that distinctive.

BBB - are you going to get your car in Classic American again? The Charger article was great and your photos, as usual, were stunning. smile

Porky,

Yes mate. Its sitting inside all cosy waiting for a couple of small items to come over before MOT'ing and registering.

Hopefully will be able to keep it but the way things are going may have to part with it ...cry got a blown engine on a truck that needs replacing. God knows how much that'll cost......

Kev,

Remember me..?! wink

I'm going to send you a pm once I've typed this, but give me a call. I might be able to give you a little bit of guidance. Lus1fer seems to know his stuff too.

Oh, and do you know anyone who covers this area in your line of work..?

Nige,
Dover.
