My new Mustang
Discussion
I know we've got a Mustang forum, but those guys are probably sick to death of hearing about my car
So, after about 18 months of looking, here's my new baby.
4.6 V8, 5-speed Hurst Shifter, Flowmaster exhaust & slightly lowered.
'Scuse the pics, these are off E-bay. Better ones will follow.

My biggest problem is between driving my column shift daily driver truck and the floor-mounted shifter on the Mustang... I keep automatically reaching for the non-existant lever on the Mustang's steering column! Strangely, I have no problems readjusting to my partner's RHD manual hatchback.
Cheers Tim, I'm rather pleased with it
Actually, I've not heard from Russell in ages. We spoke just before we moved house back in April....so that's nearly 5 months!!
I'll make a point to call him tomorrow.
Oh, and sorry, the Mustang won't be going anywhere near airports, but I'm happy to pick you up in my wife's BMW

Most people are used to using the centre of the road as a reference and sight line. In a yank, you just use the kerb, it's soon second nature although I'll never change gear as well with my right as I do my left.
Yup, took me about a week to get stop veering into the middle of the road ;-) After a while and being fortunate to always own both at the same time, it does become second nature whatever side you sit in. I always felt LHD gear changes were better. 69fastback said:

Own and still own a variety of LHD and RHD vehicles. Fortunately they are all automatic now. One with column change, another tip-tronic and the rest standard floor mounted Auto. Used to own a Chevy pick-up 3speed column change, '79 Trans Am 4speed manual and other assorted vehicles.Even after 21 years if LHD & RHD vehicles, my biggest problem is sometimes walking to (and sometimes opening) the passenger door, on either the LH or RH drive vehicles !!!! (then trying to diguse the fact by pretending I needed something out of the door pocket :-) )
COME ON own up, who else does this ?

Me. Often the other way round too. I once got in to my Mazda 5 and closed the door and then foolishly realised the steering wheel was on the right....now what to do - yep, open the glove box, rifle round, take something out, look at it as you walk round to the driover's seat and casually throw it on the passenger seat.COME ON own up, who else does this ?

OK, I've done it too. In my defence, I always have to get in the passenger side of the LHD truck if it's parked behind my house, as I have to park against a wall. Luckily there's no gear shift to get in the way, so I can slide across the seats without experiencing a nasty insertion on the way.Gassing Station | Yank Motors | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
