67 Camaro RS SS @ £20k - Good Price?

Tuned 1967 Chevrolet Camaro RS SS.

I have wanted a 60s muscle car for a while now but don't know what kind of money they go for. I have seen reasonable mustangs go for similar monies but Camaros seem rare. I really want a series 1 and a big block V8 with good power output and this one seems rot free enough.

Is this good money for one or should I look else where?

For a '67 that seems steep to me, also you need to research these cars, it is not siple to prove it is a genuine SS or RS or RS/SS, I am pretty sure you can check what engine it had new on the VIN or possibly on the body tag.

For one to be as expensive as that is really needs to be correct, were cowl induction hoods available on 67's? nasy shifter, awful chrome stuff on the pipes etc, all can be put right but it all costs money.

Looking at the prices for the other US cars on their site, they seem to be way overpriced. A '99 Prowler for £40k yikes reckon they'd be lucky to get £20k. Everything else looks to be around £10,000 too much (IMO).

Chassis and engine numbers should match if the seller claims it's all original.

Edit to add: after checking Ebay it looks like the price is O.K.

Matching numbers is a done deal on a Mopar (Chrysler) as it is easy to find them and they have are an exact copy of part of the VIN. G.M. numbers are very hard to find, harders to read as the engine paint tends to mask them and are not usually VIN related.

Also if the numbers were to check out it still would not prove it's an RS/SS, the clues are there to it's lack of originality, stripe looks wrong,cowl hood, shifter, wheels etc, sorry but to me it's way off value wise.

Your choice, obviously, but I agree with RR440. For £20k, you'd want it to be spot-on.

Trouble is you can buy all the correct RS SS stickers emblems etc from repro comapnies stateside, so a very good replica is virtually impossible to detect..

My only word of warning is that the 67s are the least desirable of the First Gens with the quarterlights. THe 1969 is, in my opinion, the best looking and the most desirable, an opinion shared by GM since they based the new Camaro on it. The '69 itself was inspired by the Merc 300SL. The Z28 is the most desirable obviously.

As a sort of comparator, my mate paid £8000 for a fairly immaculate 1970 Second Gen V8 although it wasn't a Z28.
