What's something that has that wonderful V8 burble at idle, but won't break the bank to get my hands on one?

Ideally max £30k so I don't need it to be THE version of any given car (e.g. a hemi cuda or a Shelby GT500)

Enough of them around so that the parts aren't unobtanium

From the 60s or 70s

Can this be done?

You want something like this. Loads of upgrade parts available and small block chevies are easy to get parts for.

Good lord that’s a beaut.
Seems pretty reasonable price wise compared what alot of Yank stuff seems to go for nowadays!

A mid 70's Vette could be a good choice - OK, so right in the middle of the emission era but many have had engines upgraded - generally small block Chevy engine, so again plenty of tuning stuff available - well within your budget, even perhaps something with a big block? - top end of your budget would get you a very clean car..............

Honestly, I'd imagine anything GM would be a safe bet. Chevy, Buick, Pontiac, Oldsmobile, Corvette, Cadillac, GMC.

I've not had any issues with parts for my Buick ('67 455ci Riviera), and that has a Buick engine. Mechanical parts all readily available from Rock Auto, cosmetic stuff is easy from OPGI and a few specialists like Old Buick Parts cover pretty much everything else. Worst I've had was sourcing a glovebox latch, which I didn't know if it would be a generic GM bit, so I managed to find a used one on eBay for $20.

I should imagine Ford stuff is mostly the same. I understand some Mopar stuff can be a little awkward/costly.

AMC stuff might be a bit harder, Studebaker/Packard/DeSoto might be a pita.

Yep, that Nova looks good value...and quite UK garage friendly, size wise which is a bonus.

Also, Billy at NAMCO has this '64 Galaxie up for sale as well.....3 pedals and a big-block FE.....but needs a big garage.

How does that fit with the OP's 'from the 60's to 70's' criteria....? readit

A C3 Corvette should be easily attainable - but (IIRC) care needs to be taken as they can rot quite badly

Doesn't quite fall into the 'easy to get' quote though....

And anyway, who wants a wrong hand drive '60's Mustang...?

Many rhd yanks (Canadian manufactured in some cases) from the 60's were often a mix 'n' match blend of dashboards and trim from earlier years (certainly so with Ford's) - odd-ball 'U' shaped exhaust manifold connections (to clear steering columns) and mixes of lh and rh manifolds could add to non-standard parts and potential issues)
