The Chevy pump has the pipe connection bottom left (left as you look at the front of the engine). Is it possible to get a pump that is a mirror image and hence hose connects on right?

I need to bring the engine forward but in so doing the steering column UJ will clash with the bottom hose.

Nope, there are only two types of sbc water pump, short pump (basically pre-68) and the long pump housing (basically post-68) although there are some variations for some years of Corvette, but pretty sure every type has the hose connection in same place.

You may have to resort to one of those fancy electric water pumps, as IIRC, some have a connection on both sides, with a blanking plug to fit to which side you don't connect to.

I noticed the electric pumps when I was searching, it might solve the problem but would not be period. That's a bit of a blow, it maybe that I will need to alter the column.
