ULEZ - the beginning of the 'end' ...........or the 'end' of the beginning for anyone choosing to use a car in London?
Its a strange scenario now for car owners after Londons Dictator Khan decided to further extend the ULEZ zone to ALL London boroughs. I'm guessing that there won't be that many people around with petrol cars in daily use that are over 22 years old.........but there will be a high number of diesel cars and commercials that are over 6/7 years old and therefore non-compliant. Too draconian a measure........but if you own a 'historic' you can use it with no penalty........for the moment!.......wonder how long before that all changes!

When they put this out for consultation I knew it would not make a difference and it would be introduced.
So anyone with a diesel that is not Euro 6 which was around 2014 / 2015
Petrol Euro 4 which is around 2005 / 2006.
This is going to hurt a lot of people. Utterly ridiculous
All this on top of rising mortgage rates and inflation

It had an awful lot of objections, but he did it anyway.

A few petrol cars were Euro 4 prior to 2005......perhaps even 2001 (Fords surprisingly) - Not all diesels were Euro 6 2014/15 some not until 2016, so only 7/8 years old. Took a walk-out last night with the dog and there's a surprising number of higher end cars around like Merc's, Beemers and Audi's that won't be compliant.......and to think that people 'bought-in' in the diesels and paid more for them due for the economy benefits and perhaps to benefit from the longer life they would have.. What really p*sses me off is that unlike last years So anyone with a diesel that is not Euro 6 which was around 2014 / 2015

'extension' to the ULEZ zone - or - the original (and still applicable) congestion charge you could decide whether or not to drive into the respective zones.....with this new 'fleecing', (subject to where the traffic cameras are located) you are effectively forced to pay by simply leaving your drive or street parking place!

Back before the original congestion charge was rolled out, working close to Chary Wharf I attended local meetings organised to give local residents and businesses an oportunity to understand, discuss and air their views about what was then to be the forthcoming congestion charge. The authority were exercising their statutory legal obligation to publish a 'consultation' document and allow local residents (as noted above) a chance to ask questions and voice opinions......nothing more. Anyone who thinks that you'll have any sway in influencing their plans will be disappointed. The consultation periods are simply a whitewash and nothing more as there is no legal obligation for the authority to action any objections or alternatives. 'Consultations' are already 'done deals'.......that is 'modern democracy' for you. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-63754...
'Historics' (40+ year old cars) are exempt from ULEZ, MOT test and quality for 'free' rfl so, yes should be OK following your Riv actually reaching 41 years of age from delared date of manufacture on V5. DVLA may require proof of date of vehicle manufacture from a recognised car club. I did about 20 of these for CCCUK members with imported Vettes - only ever had one rejected.

That wouldn't make it right either ,Now worried that it will spread to the rest of the country before to long .
Words fail me who put these people in charge of our way of life and give them so much power when they don't have a clue.

I was chatting this evening with some car guy friends. I think the general census of opinion is that it would be impossible for Khan to have the budget to install the amount of cameras needed to operate this scheme. I say lets wait and see if it actually happens before worrying about selling or replacing any of our cars.

Don't forget a lot of them are already installed some years back for when they brought in the ULEZ for HGV's which cover the same greater London area.3 of the outer London boroughs are legally challenging Khan over the decision.
