Yes, would be good for that. VAG group mechanicals, 2.0 CRD manual will see around 40-42 mpg. More a crossover than a proper SUV.

Sounds fine, I won't need 4wd, just enough ground clearance to cope with potholed tracks every now and again.

I put 40k miles on one. Superb car. Regret getting rid and 50mpg was certainly achievable.
