1968 Pontiac GTO
Discussion
My 1968 Pontiac GTO is in paint this week after a body off restoration with some slight modifixations. Fifty two years ago when I was in high school, dreaming about this car and drawing it in class kept me awake for 3 years. I've had dozens of cars in over 50 years of driving including my '72 De Tomaso Pantera, my 5.0L 600hp Jaguar XKR, but I've never been so excited about getting a car ever. It's going to be painted in its original Verduro Green complete with the hood mounted tachometer, functional hood scoops, and hidden headlights. I should have pictures by the end of next week. Modifications includes adding 4 wheel disc brakes and 17" wheels and tires. The big cruiser will be home soon!
I was told by the shop owner, today, that my Goat will be out of the paint booth by Tuesday afternoon of next week. I told him, "I hope so, since I'd like to drive it before I'm dead from either the virus or otherwise!" I will be there with camera in hand Tuesday afternoon, so hopefully some pictures in the evening. Heavy anticipation.....
kevin,
I agree with you completely, Paint was finished yesterday afternoon, and I have pictures before the clear coat was applied. This afternoon, after a round of golf,as some courses in the next county have opened, I will stop and take finished pictures. Wheel arch trim, turn signals, and GTO graphics are not on yet but the color is done. Pictures tonight!

xyyman,
Here is the link to the wheels. Inexpensive and very nice looking.

After many painful delays, it appears I'll be bring home the Goat on Monday afternoon. It has been driving me crazy stopping everyday to see little progress and actual setbacks that kept delaying its completion. But, this time it appears Monday is "set in stone." I'll believe it when I'm behind the wheel Monday. Pictures to follow.
Well, after several years of waiting, my '68 Goat finally came home to me last night! Still some things to do like installing my Ram Air kit, changing out the dash bezels and gauge covers, installing new e-brake cable, new steering wheel, BUT I can stare at it all day long. The sexy hood on this car is more sensual with its scoops, hood tach and curves that any car has a right to be, simply gorgeous. At some point I will want to deal with the floatiness of this behemoth as well, but for a Sunday cruiser and the fulfillment of a lifelong dream, it already has met my expectations. It will fit nicely in my garage with its Pantera and 2 Jag XKR brethren.
