Im about a year away from buying a new challenger. Im looking at the Scat pack with various bits. target price at a tuscan dealer I was with a week ago indicated to me to be @ $40-42k on a july 4th 'weekend special deal'. With shipping, to the uk, this ends up still significantly below what ive seen uk importers offer similar cars for. i appreciate i need to add 10% plus 17.5% ontop. and obviously you have the exchange rate risk till i do buy.

so, base question, am i missing something as apart from the grief factor, I have been unable to justify dealer prices over here which are significantly greater than what it will cost me?

the one factor i need to check is whether the US warranty will work worldwide though,

has anyone else imported new for themselves? love to hear your overall opinion.

ty

Buy one in NA, ferry over to russia and drive back through the mainland. If the journey takes more than 6 months you wont need to pay import fees or vat.

17.5% ?? VAT is 20% which is added last, it is purchase price + shipping & insurance = X, X + 10% = Y the Y + 20%.
Y
Are you thinking of shipping it in a container or Roll On Roll Off? In a container on it's own you are looking to add a substantial amount to your cost over RORO
Once the vehicle has left US soil the Dodge warranty will be non existant, all they will be liable for for is any safety recall work that needs doing

ty for reminding me its 20% - didn't event notice i typo'd that in. i've always stuck stuff in a container. i also have a contact in tx who brings stuff over so would work a deal with him. i did wonder if the small crop of uk dealers would be eligible for any warranty work but obviously didn't expect much help if it needed something and i rocked up having swerved buying through them ! to be fair, the car is hewn from granite so im not expecting too many fubars...........maybe smile

I guess by time you have factored in the cost to land it here then add on cost for the IVA test/registration fees etc you will be saving a minimum of £10k?
I purchased my Mustang new in '06 and shipped it here, saved a small fortune over what a import dealer would have charged me, thankfuly back the the exchange rate was in our favour smile

yeah easily 10k. probably more tbh. their hellcat prices are genuinely laughable which actually got me offing my ass to visit a dealer when i was out there in tuscon.

of course the other route is buy a 1 yr old low miler over there thats had a lump of depreciation but obviously wont necessarily be exactly what im after

Bear in mind you will have problems buying a new car as you are not a resident and dealers are not allowed to sell for export
You will have to have help stateside or be lucky finding a friendly(or desperate) dealer

Just flash the cash - dealers USA style are even greedier than here in the UK - if that's possible smile
Like the idea of driving it back through Russia & europe to avoid the TAX, how do you get it road registered though to do this??

This /\ /\, dealers can lose their franchise by selling for export. The work for IVA is a bit more complicated on late model stuff & expensive if you get it wrong (electronics & wiring etc.) Yes you can save money but at a cost (mental well being!)

I think most bases have been covered.
I shipped my hellcat in a 20 foot container insured.
US dealers cannot and will not sell direct to you.
They would get fined and or lose their franchise.
You would need someone in the US to buy it for you and title the car.
Different states have different taxes for registration so be mindful of that.
That can make a big difference.
I used Sigma Automotive to sort the lighting out and the IVA test.
Not cheap but they did a good job

Forgot about the dealers not being able to sell for export, you had best factor in sales tax on the purchase price unless you get a US citizen to buy it out of state.

Remember you will pay Duty AND VAT! I did it just over a year ago, imploring a car from the US.
Ro-Ro ferries cost £750 whilst a container is £1190. Defo go for the container option and use Kingstown Shipping.

The way to get around the new problem, is to buy a very low mileage second hand vehicle

Also remember you’ll have no factory warranty when back in the UK

Seemingly there is now a network of UK Dodge dealers who you can order through with full warranty.
Think its only for Challengers, Chargers Durangos and Rams.
Unless they prices are wild?

Yeah prices are comical and just downright scandalous of Challengers from UK dealers. Just sheer greed. MUCH cheaper to import yourself.

Put it this way; used R/T’s here are the same price as brand new Hellcat’s in the US!

If you do import it yourself. Pay extra for a container.

RORO is not the way to go, especially on a brand new car.

Claridon are a brilliant shipping company. They're well priced and make you feel like you are a top priority customer. They also specialize in UK-US shipments, mostly for motorbikes but they obviously will do cars too.

Why? I had my brand new Mustang shipped over by RORO and had no problems at all, even the stuff in the trunk didn't go missing
