Jeep 3.0 CRD Oil Leak
Discussion
Hi,
I viewed an 06 plate Jeep Commander today and after taking the engine cover off noticed a fairly substantial amount of oil in two areas, one being behind the turbo and the other being around the serpentine (?) belt.
I've read that these Merc 3.0 CRD engines are prone to leaks from the oil cooler (conveniently located in the V). It was also visible underneath the engine as it had dripped onto a tray towards the rear of the engine bay, near the lower control arm mounts. I didn't take the car but said to the owner i'd have to look into the cause of the leak and get back to him with an offer if I thought it was worth getting fixed.
Anyone able to help with diagnosing this? The oil looked like it had been there a while and after googling, saw varied results ranging from 'engine out job' to 'replace a certain seal on the turbo inlet' and all manner of other reasons for this leak, and other leaks too. I'm not necessarily put off of the purchase if i can get an idea of what this is likely to cost, the owner said he's open to offers accordingly.
I can't attached the bl0ody pics as they all need resizing in order to fit...
Thanks

Could be turbo inlet - there is an amount of air from the breather that goes into the turbo inlet so caries a bit of oil. It leaks where the pipe meets the turbo - there is a revised gasket or the option to put in a catch can.
or
Could be the oil cooler O rings in the bottom of the V - as you say they are known to break down and leak.
AFAIK the engine is the same as the 3.0CRD Grand Cherokee and essentially the same as the Chrysler 300C - if you go on the facebook 300c forum there is guy in Swindon who seems well versed in repairs - Gworks Gavin Bailey https://www.facebook.com/groups/chrysher300clubuk/...
Hope that helps.?
