I am going to be accepting a permanent job soon which means I won't need a van, and just have to commute a 2 mile drive to work each day.

So makes perfect sense to sell the Transit custom and get something with a stonking big V8 smile

I am currently fancying a big American SUV, I have driven a GMC Yukon XL in the states which was just perfect for cruising around in.

The Escalade seems great value, something like this: https://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/...

Are these just big money pits? what are they like to live with in the UK?

Not worried about LHD, never have issues with a RHD in Europe...

I guess one issue may be parking in Tesco's etc, as im guessing they may not fit too good in the spaces....

So anyone had one over here?

An old boss had Chevy Avalanche which is a comparable size and it was a mare to drive on anything other than dual carriageway and motorway.

They don’t fit in UK sized parking spaces. They don’t fit in car washes, multi-storey car parks and their inter-level ramps can be a total nightmare.

If you avoid all of these it’s fine.

Can only advise that you will have issues with day to day life using something of that size.
I owned a LHD car for 12 months and although it wasn't that hard to live with there was always a challenge at least once a day.

Odd, I bought a £4k Megane from there (64 plate 115k) ex Arval lease. Bought it for a taxi. Fantastic car for the money.

They are what they are. Stack it high, sell it cheap. They're turning lots of metal for small margins. The staff were friendly enough, I rang them about the car, paid a deposit over the phone, for the train up from Devon, walked to their dealership (old multi storey car park) in and driving my Megane home in under 20 minutes.

If you want coffee and shagpile carpet, they're not for you.

On the subject of Escalades, mate has one of a similar age in the States. An lot of car for the money. All the toys, not that quick, but a very comfortable waftmobile.

My friends sister has one a year or so old and had the previous gen before than.

It's huge. I don't know anything about running costs or what it is like to live with but it is absolutely enormous.

hehe

I like Escalades, but that one looks “wrong”. It seems to have the OEM wheels from an older car, the lights / front end have been modified, and it’s being sold by Motorhub. I’d look elsewhere.

Drove one over here in the US. I’m used to a largish people carrier van that seats 8, but the Escalade felt massive! Wouldn’t fancy that on British roads.

It's 12 years old, that is what they look like, rear lights likely modified for UK regs, wheels are a base option.

As for the OP's question, walk away, that era was when they were poor quality, now they are a lot better and closer to the likes of European marques.

I don't see any modifications. Please explain.
