Cadillac escalade?
Discussion
Hi guys n gals!
Me and the other half are looking for a new family car. It needs to be a 7 seater, and we want petrol, not diesel, the larger engine the better. Preferably a 4x4/suv. Now we don't like the normal, everyday stuff. We've got the jap import Toyota land cruiser 100 series 4.7 v8 on the short list, as is the Ford explorer 4.6 v8, but we've just come across the cadillac escade 6.0 v8.....other than obvious low fuel consumption, does anybody know of any issues or things I need to be aware of before going to look at one? Looking on American forums I can't really see anything wrong with them?
Any advice, guidance or just general abuse welcome 😂
Thank you
Ian

Hi Ian
I researched the Escalade hard before deciding on a Navigator.
The Escalade seems basically sound, as do most of the SUV's from over the pond. You do not say what age you are looking at but I was post 08.
Findings as follows on the Escalade.................
Door Handles, front...........can break the internals and then the door will not shut or lock correctly.
Also can affect the power running boards if fitted.
Suspension can take a beating and the struts may need replacing. Track control and tie rods can similarly have high wear.
Winsdcreens are pricey if needing replacement.
22 inch wheels look great but the tyres can be a real PITA to find. (this was the final reason I went for the Lincoln as it runs 20 inch wheels)
And of course the usual suspects of service history, condition and wear etc. Sadly a lot of them have had aftermarket wheels fitted 26 inch being a favourite but this is not going to help the drivetrain components at all !!
If you are going to keep the 3rd row of seats up most of the time then the Escalade pre 2015 is fine but the seats, operated manually, do not fold in to the floor so if you intend to use the cargo space regularly then maybe the Navigator with power fold flat into floor 3rd row seats would be a better option.
You may also want to look at the Yukon, Suburban and Tahoe which are basically the same as the Escalade.
The Navigator is an Expedition with more toys and gadgets so that may be another option.
BTW I bought mine in UAE, cheaper that a US car !!
I hope that helps

Apologies, I'll be looking around 2002 to 2005. Have also been looking at the GMC yukon Denali with the same engine. Looks huge tho!!
Are you based in the UAE? Or just purchased your car from there? The ones I've been looking at came from Japan, from what I can tell. Been looking on the jap auction sites (I'm used to them from owning jap imports) but I wouldn't know Where's a good place to look to import one from the states.
Thanks again 😊

Hi Ian
We are UK and Portugal based.
I looked at a couple of the Japanese ones and candidly I was not too taken with either the attitude of the dealers/importer or the aftermarket additions such as wheels, bonnet colours, upgraded stereos, etc. ......that is not to say there are not some good ones but may need some digging out.
You may want to look at dubizzle or dubicars............there are loads of cars available. I can put you in touch with a company who can buy and import it for you.
PM me if that is of interest.
work on 1 x AED = £0.21 when calculating the price.

I've been looking at both the websites you suggested, and your right, the stuff there is a lot cheaper than the jap sites I've been looking on. Is there anything in particular I need to consider to import a car from there compared to Japan? I'm guessing the cars over there don't suffer from much rust/corrosion for example?
I've had a look for a comparable American auction website to have a look at cars rather than the jap sites, but I'm a bit lost 😂 do you know of any good, reputable American car auction sites?
Thanks again
Ian 😊
Hi Ian
I think you are right, the cars do seem at first to be a lot cheaper but you do have to take in to consideration the costs of getting the car to the UK. Once in the UK then it will need to go through various tests and then the registration process.
Not that dissimilar to bringing a car in from pretty much anywhere else.
I found this company to be extremely useful

The rest of the stuff/advice I will send through by email if that is OK.
