Declaring Mods on Imported Car
Discussion
So I know that you should always declare mods to your insurance company to avoid any nasty issues if the worst should happen.
My question though is more around imported vehicles, I am currently importing a C10 which I know has a different engine and a few other bits and bobs but because it’s the first time it will be registered in the UK are they still classed as mods, I guess it will be registered with the engine size but what about the other mods?
My Mustang which also has a different engine that was fitted pre import has that engine size on the log book which I did declare it to my insurance and TBF didn't seem to make a lot difference.
Any ideas?

Its an 82.
The agent that sourced the car in the states who is British and specialises in sourcing and importing cars from the US-UK told me it would only need an MOT and registration. He is doing all the NOVA paper work..etc. I have no reason to doubt him as he is very reputable and experienced but he could be wrong. I will check it with him, at what point would the DVLA ask for it to be inspected?

Might be OK being that late, from what I've read its largely on pre-65 stuff they are being very fussy on having SGS inspect. With 40 year VED exemption taking effect end of next month, that cut off date maybe brought forward to '78 for inspection, but, with an '82, it will need MOT anyway, so you maybe OK.The agent that sourced the car in the states who is British and specialises in sourcing and importing cars from the US-UK told me it would only need an MOT and registration. However, it might depend on extent of mods.
The problem is if your ex-pat guy in USA has not been keeping up with the DVLA's changes since last summer, then he probably thinks things are still as they were before.
Once you've submitted paperwork to DVLA for application for a reg number, they will either issue one, and you are good to go, or they will hold pending sending out an inspector from SGS to verify etc.
