50s Chevy Pick up
Discussion
So, having realised my dream of owning and American car with my 2015 Mustang, the itch of owning an American Classic is now worse, infact unbearable. We are talking tha kind of itch that needs a wire brush to deal with.
My dream has always been a 57 Chevy but I do not have anywhere to put one....at the moment and nor do I have the funds...at the moment.
So What I want right now is a 50s Chevy pick up. Must be a Chevy and ideally one that can just be used and I kinda lave the battered used look.
I want to do loads of research before I take the plunge but struggling to find clubs and forums to get involved in. Any ideas anyone. Ideally I am look to speak to some experts/owners.

I have a 50's Ford F100 and found http://www.rodsnsods.co.uk/forum quite good, but for best info and good answers, I use a couple of groups on Facebook:

Please be very very careful, there are plenty of heaps of junk out there that look good, but hide serious horrors mechanically. Remember that they are MOT exempt.I want to do loads of research before I take the plunge but struggling to find clubs and forums to get involved in. Any ideas anyone. Cheers, I have a certain amount of know how so will look for the obvious points such as rust etc but I guess you get what you pay for.
The other thing to think about is many have had front clip swaps and such like, so with the new VHI regs and post May 2018 declaration with mods etc., the more stock it is the potential less hassle it will be.If you're registered on Rods n Sods forum, the guy you need to read posts from is "v8.jimmy" from Scotland who specialises in trucks and pickups. He seems to be the font of all knowledge on 40s/50s/60s pickups etc.

Okay, thats interesting. I had noticed the front clip thing and is something that I certainly would have looked to either doing myself or buying one with it done, so will bear that in mind. Seen a couple of nice trucks in the states already and on the strength of that, I am going to settle for a 58/59 Apache, even if it means a longer wait.If you're registered on Rods n Sods forum, the guy you need to read posts from is "v8.jimmy" from Scotland who specialises in trucks and pickups. Looks like you need a resto mod 3100. Plenty about in the states. I import a few cars I was looking at a 6cl 2 door 56 Bel Air last night that was about 14k door to door. That might be interesting My dream has always been a 57 Chevy but I do not have anywhere to put one....at the moment and nor do I have the funds...at the moment.

With all the new changes, I'd be cautious of a lot of US resto-mod stuff now, especially with pick-ups that have had front-clips done, bagged suspensions, frame changes and other newer running gear etc.Gassing Station | Yank Motors | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
