Crossfire / Problem
Discussion
It's my wife's 2005 crossfire roadster.
A couple of months ago went shopping and the car would not start when she returned.
All the electrics worked but just wouldn't turn over the engine.
Got towed to local garage and it started.
Same thing happened this week, this time she waited 30 minutes and it started.
Took car to another garage to diagnose problem but they couldn't find what was the problem.
Any ideas ,please.

Sounds like a bad ignition switch to me
That's what I thought it might be and I suggested that to the garage. However they said they'd put it on their diagnostic machine and nothing definitive had come up.
Told me to return the car immediately if it occurred again.
I'm presuming that if they put in on their diagnostic machine immediately after the fault manifested itself they'd be more liable to diagnose the problem.
Does that sound right to you ?
Thanks for your help Chris.
So you're saying it could be any of half a dozen things.
If that's the case how long would it take for a competent garage to find out what the problem
is ?
I'm asking because this is the second garage I've taken it to.
First time it happened that garage, which I've used before, couldn't diagnose the problem.
Then this other garage,on the second occasion, also drew a blank.

If it's won't turn over at all and the batteries charged and ok, then you maybe looking at an immobiliser fault (SKREEM) module.
Diagnostics on these is a little difficult as you need a DRB3 with a special crossfire card and a LIN box which is a dealer only or a specialist that's spent a lot of money on the kit.
One thing to try is unplugging the module (black box behind Dash cluster) and plugging it back in again sometimes it resets, also heard disconnecting the battery and leaving it ten minutes before reconnecting work as well. I changed quite a few of those modules in the past for random failures.
If my terrible memory serves me a little bit I think you get a little red dot flash on the dash if there's a immobiliser failure.

Just spoke to the garage mechanic and he doesn't think it's the starter motor.
It appears that your explanation is more likely.
Fortunately the fault occurred again after I dropped the car off at his garage so it's easier for him to solve the fault, apparently.
In my next life I'll take a motor mechanics course,I hate not knowing what's going on.

I think there's a pin on the engine control module that should go live if the immobiliser is working and it's ok to crank, what happens when the immobiliser isn't working it wont go live it was the first check we did as the ecu isn't hard to get at.Just spoke to the garage mechanic and he doesn't think it's the starter motor.
