I have recently bought a 1967 Dodge Monaco with a 383 engine and was wondering what everybody else does regarding the use of lead replacement additive for cars of this age.

A few of my friends who have similar aged cars say they have never bothered with it but it worries me I could cause damage if I don't.

This is what I have put in a few times so far.

Should I carry on using it ?

Whats the history on the car? How long has it been in the UK, has engine been rebuilt, etc.,etc?

US automakers had to build non-lead compatible engines from 1970 onwards, and lead was banned in fuel in USA in 1996, so there's a good chance that the valve train maybe have been modded for unleaded fuel already if the car is a relatively recent import.

If the car has been in UK say since the 70's and is largely original/unrestored, then it maybe be wise to run some additive, but pulling the heads and getting the valve guides done would be the better route if this is the case.

Thanks for the reply aeropilot , I don't really have much history on the car but the log book shows it was imported in 2001.

Been trying to find out as much as I can about it and its all a bit confusing really. I think I'll play on the safe side and carry on putting it in at the moment until I need to take the heads off.

Then again I don't think the fuel stays in the car long enough to touch the sides of anything to cause a problem hehe

Very likely it has been already been modded for unleaded before it was imported then.
