Finding one that isn't rusty is the challenge before getting into which one. Z/28 is nice, pretty quick but also rare. Small blocks are fine in them, they did make an SS396 big block but again hard to find. Early 'bullnose' versions are most popular but more expensive. They do rust badly, a friend bought a '71 SS350 in 1976 and rust was already appearing along the tops of the doors. As for rust....as mentioned, top of door, panel under rear window, rear wings rot badly, boot floor, plus normal places like bottom of front wings. If it has a vinyl roof then be wary of rust underneath, I once owned a '73 Buick Century that had rather splendid rot holes underneath the vinyl. Auto or manual box, up to you as to which you prefer. More of them are autos normally with the Turbo 350 which is very reliable and easy to have rebuilt. They are pretty well catered for parts in the repro market.
