Where to find '40s Yanks

Hi all,

I'm thinking about selling a couple of, er, toys and adding a '40s yank to my garage. Ideally I'd like a convertible for up to 18K, which obviously rules out the higher end cars like Cadillacs, the big Chryslers and so on. I'd prefer a "cooking" car like a Plymouth, Dodge, DeSoto etc, just not a Ford (don't like the styling in that era). I have a '57 Plymouth, so a '47-'49 would go nicely!

However, although carandclassic seems to have much of the stock for sale over here, there doesn't seem to be one or two good sites in the US. Hemmings is a bit limited, Craigslist looks like junk/projects mostly.

Any suggestions for sites to search?

I have two friends who own '46/47 Plymouth convertibles, one a 46, one a 47, and probably know more about them in the UK than anyone else, so if a P15 car is your desire I can direct you there. In fact they have a P15 annual gathering at Sywell aerodrome in early October, which I can give to details of.
There is another one down in Surrey somewhere (have met the guy who owns that) and there's one somewhere down in Cornwall, which they are trying to track down. So that's 4 in the UK at least, so very rare in the UK, which is why you won't find one for sale here.
If you want one, you'll be importing one from the USA, and even then they aren't easy to find over there now.

If you thing Hemmings is limited, then I'm not sure where else you thing will be better given that's 'the' place to look.....!
There's a '47 Plymouth vert and a 49 Plymouth 'vert listed on Hemmings currently in your budget, and are likely the only two of that make for sale in USA at the moment.
Desoto's in that era will be beyond your budget by a considerable margin IMHO, unless needing a lot of restoration.
