Tyre/Arch protrusion - Dodge Ram
Discussion
Morning all, hope last night wasn't too bad! Close one.
Looking at a Dodge Ram this weekend and from the pictures it appears that, having been fitted with 35" tyres they protrude out of the arches a tad (see below picture). I understand when viewed from the top you shouldnt be able to see any tread - should I buy this thing I would imagine I'd need to get some arch extenders.
Few questions before I go back to animal husbandry:
Anyone running a truck with such a protrusion, any problems with plod?
Anyone know best place in the UK to get the arch extensions?
Cheers all

If you stand at the side of a vehicles wheel arch and the tyre is protruding outwards so it's beyond the wheel arch lip, you will be committing and offence.
You could drive that vehicle for years and not get stopped by the police. You could also drive it for 5 mins and end up with a fixed penalty ticket or be summonsed to court.
Like all construction and use traffic offences you either get away with it....or not.
( I think there is a small tolerance on how far the tyre can protrude beyond the body work, but I cant remember how much)

Thanks Charlotte, was imagining it would be something like that. Current owner who is a decent chap is saying that he has never had an issue but then I suppose he would say that as he is selling the truck.
I'll have a look, buy it if ok, then order some arch extensions asap, keep the reciept and plead ignorance.
Flawless plan.

Done a bit more research on the old parchment.
Apparently the law is concerned with the wing being able to "where practicable" catch detritus thrown up b the wheels.
After your experiences, soldiers, best to counter this with some arches?

Why on earth do we have to go with the stupid Americanism of '35" tyres'. It is meaningless because it does not tell you the width, profile or wheel diameter.
Rant over!
Please let us know what tyre size they are in EU metrics?
35" tyres are not made in metric sizes, the ACTUAL sidewall size will say "35x 12.5x 17" which is height x width x wheel diameter (all in inches). Also if you want the "Baja" look you can get extended fiberglass wings and bed side extensions (they look awesome when done well).Rant over!
