For about the last 10 years, I've rued the fact that the Mustang was not offered in the UK - now it's here, and I have no idea why this is, but it seems to have lost its appeal a little bit.

Currently looking at a few different options but given the prices on Autoscout, I was thinking of importing a previous model one (say 2012, higher mileage examples look to start around €20,000) to tool around in. If I fly over and drive it back, is it only the IVA conversion and test, and then registration with DVLA that I would need to worry about?

I flew out last year to bring a Plymouth Prowler back from Germany, we stuck an mot on it which was fairly simple (if you know the tester) sent the paperwork to DVLA and that was job done, Adrian Flux will insure your car on the chassis number whilst the admin is going on. Another car I bought from the States needed an iva but not the European registered vehicle.

The Prowler didn't need an IVA test as it was over ten years old. The fact it was EU registered was irrelevant.

Under ten years old will need a UK light conversion, IVA test and NOVA notification and MOT if over there years old. NOVA must be done within 14 days of the vehicle arriving in the UK. If it's EU registered with all taxes paid there's nothing else to pay other than VED and first registration fee.

Ok that doesn't sound too bad then. Previously looked on shipmycar and their quotes for the conversion etc. all sounded pretty reasonable.

Better start having a look...

TBH looking at prices on the various European sites there doesn't always seem to be a whole lot of difference between them and us. There are generally a fair few Yanks for sale over here
