I used for a commute to Wales & back to Norfolk every week and the usual reaction was "Blimey, you drove that all the way here? That's about 300 miles"
The Mustang was made to drive across America. It's a modern car, or as modern as you got in 1997.
Nothing went wrong bar a rusty rear brake pipe one year for the MOT.
Buy on condition as always.

Although it would be a 2nd car i agree it shouldn't be a problem using them daily. My Dad ran a 1980 Trans Am SE with handling pack + 4 wheel disc brakes in 1983 onwards as his only car. One of my best mates had a late 60s 6.6 Le Mans on L plates.

agree with the comment regarding the SN95, mines a 2002 GT had it for about 5 years now. Stays outside all year, gets used every weekend, has only ever let me down when the battery failed, my fault I should have realised the original one was well past its best by date. Even went from manchester to silverstone and back last year on one tank, crammed full of beer and camping gear so pretty good mpg on a run too.
Thanks, just paid another £500 plus another £120 due on Friday on this BMW. Absolutely sick of it.
Ive always been one to praise american cars over European , simpler stronger build/technology. Should have taken my own advice. MPG put me off but even that would have been way less than what I've paid out in repairs in the last 11 months!
Completely different car but would a 2000s 2.7 diesel Grand Cherokee be worth considering?

The supercharged truck I have doesn't.
Don't really know anything about diesel Cherokees but I don't think it will feel particularly American, if that's what you are looking for.

Obviously, you could seriously drop the mpg by caning it around but normal mixed driving was 25 and when I used to take it to Wales & back, it was 35 on all dual carriageway & motorway.
The engine was only turning 1700rpm at 70mph in 5th gear. Dunno what an auto would do.
Mind you, that was was with it serviced, tuned up, tyres pumped and not carrying crap around.
The '96 GT made 215hp. the performance model was the 305hp Cobra although I recall Ford lied about the output on that one, to try to compete with the Camaro.
In that respect the 1994-1996 Z28s had 275/285hp and the LS1 98-on models had a conservative "305hp", oft proved to be rather more. Hard to find these days.

The mustangs seem very good value and if looked after cheap to own and maybe going up in value,
you could look at the full size 4 door cars like lincolns , chevy caprices etc depends what you want..
I would avoid anything rusty unless you have welding and body work skils
better to pay a little more for the better car too , good luck and have fun...
I had a look on a UK Mustang forum yesterday and saw a thread where someone was asking about getting a SN95 as a daily driver. One answer was "if you don't mind paying £25- 30 per day in fuel" . I remember spending over a tenner a day 26 years ago in the camaro.

I had a 1999 Camaro Z28 as a second car for about 7 years. Very cheap to maintain - it only needed an annual service, little went wrong. Although I did replace the exhaust for something a bit less "Mondeo". Exchange rate was good at the time so it cost peanuts in genuine Yank bits. Put a smile on my face every time I drove it. £5k may be a bit low for one though - mine sold for £5750 about 18 months ago.
