Coming to the UK from Canada

So I have a rare opportunity to come for work in the UK in March- April and I am going to Import a fun unique American car. The beauty is that I can import it as a temporary import and use for up to 6 months. I currently own a Focus ST and I am going to sell it for something more unique. Right now I am leaning towards a Mustang V8 but an open to other things that will be fun to drive in Europe. I have never owned a V8 and figure I should scratch that off the list before I move from Detroit. I will import it after the 6 months or sell it before if someone is interested. Not here to make money its more of the experience. Glad too see there are so many enthusiast out that and it will be fun to meet some off you over the next couple months.

Used US cars tend be cheaper, and much lower mileage, here than in the US.
If you bring it in as a temporary import you'd need to check out the insurance as that might be problematic.
Officially importing it after six months, as opposed to shipping it back home, means you would be liable for import duty and VAT and it would then need a UK light conversion and testing before being registered.
Unless you're thinking about bringing over something special/unique it could work out to be non cost effective.

Interesting to hear of someone moving TO the UK. My perception is that there are many more that would like to do the reverse!
Regarding second hand American car prices, from my experience I'd say that you'd get more for a used American car over here than in the US. Particularly if it is something that's quite popular in the UK (like a V8 Mustang). People are happy to pay more for a car that's already been imported, so they don't have to sort out the importation/duty/vat/light conversion etc.

Particularly if it is something that's quite popular in the UK (like a V8 Mustang). People are happy to pay more for a car that's already been imported, so they don't have to sort out the importation/duty/vat/light conversion etc.

Don't bother. Do the euro thing whilst in Europe. Older Euro cars are way cheaper to purchase and run here (and more suited!). Do the big thirsty yanky V8 on US Gas prices.
If you're just here temporarily I would suggest a nice Lotus or TVR will fit the bill nicely if you insist on sporty. If it's comfort you seek, search out the barge threads in General Gassing. Trust me, you will be astounded at how much car you can get for your money here in the UK.

Probably best not bothering with a Mustang being as Ford are heavily marketing it as a RHD vehicle. It would need to be V8 and 'loaded' to sell here - then it would need to be at the right price.
Better off with something like a spec'd-up Vette, Camaro or Challenger if you can afford to buy. It will these cars (if nearly new) that will create best interest in UK.
